MTB with dogs...

are you keeping the dogs out of the nursery? I usually give my dogs free reign over the house, but the thought of the dog hair getting into the baby's things kind of scares me. So since becoming PG the dogs no longer sleep in bed with DH & I, but we are also not allowing the dogs into the nursery at all. Am I being overly-cautious here?

Re: MTB with dogs...

Not at all. I have a jack russell with free reign of the house except baby's room. I had a gate we put in the doorway and kept the door open so if we were in there, she could still see us and be with us, but not in there.

She's good with the baby, always was, i just don't want her in her room.Chat Icon

Re: MTB with dogs...

They won't go there unless "invited". They don't have free range to the bedrooms.

Re: MTB with dogs...

We have a min pin who sheds like crazy. I have been keeping him out of our bedroom where the baby is until construction is done on the house. He is very good with her, protects her etc, but I dont want her things to be covered in dog hair.

Re: MTB with dogs...

We've weaned Max out of the bed first lol and then out of the bedroom...we still leave the baby gate open so that he completely stops coming in at night trying to get on the bed. We're going to start closing it soon bc when the baby comes it is going to be closed at all times and he will not be allowed in unless invited.

Not only do I not want his hair there but also the dirt on his paws...

We have a Yorkie and he doesn't shed at all. He likes hanging out with us in the nursery while we work on it.

See that is my issue b/c one of the dogs does not shed & does not go outside so she is super-clean ( she gets baths 2 times a week) but the others are not. I cannot show favourtism though, so I am not letting any of them in there. I even put a mat outside the babys room so DH does not track hair into the nurseryChat Icon

Re: MTB with dogs...

I tried.....they follow me everywhere and after awhile you accept the dog hair all over everything. I still freak out if it's on her hands, in her mouth, or on her food. But at the end of the day (even with dustmopping/swiffer vac'ing EVERY DAY) she has dog hair on her clothes from crawling around.

I don't let them scratch in her room and for the most part, her room is only for sleeping or changing diapers. We occasionally sit up there and play or read books and the puggle will curl up in there with us.

For me...it's the size of the rotti when she gets too close because poor DD has been knocked over quite a few times already. Now when the dogs bark or daddy comes home...she runs in the opposite direction from the dogs!!!

ETA: if you try to keep them out of the nursery they may become jealous or resentful of the baby once it comes into the house. I much prefer having the dogs be protective of her and teaching them to be easy and gentle in her presence which has worked well. now they are jungle gyms to her!

She mainly follows me around, but is afraid of the nursery for some reasonChat Icon

But she does sleep with us and I fully expect she will get up with me when I get up with the baby, my mom said their dog (they had a yorkie, we have a beagle) did the same thing and it was fine, so I am trying not to overthink it.
