Moving out of state-Opinions needed

DH and I have been tossing around the idea of moving OOS for quite some time.

However the job that DH does here doesn't exist where we would be moving to so there isn't an option on transferring OOS.

We would like to take a trip down to see if DH can find a job before we move.

For those who moved OOS without the option of transferring your job, how did you find work? Did you just move without a job lined up or did you take a trip down before to try and line something up?

Moving without a job lined up makes me nervous but DH seems to think if we have enough saved we'll be able to work through it until we can find jobs.

We moved here to NY with only DH having a job. I am still looking. We made it a point not to move unless one of us had a job in NY first. So he just held off on telling his job in MD until we had something concrete. I find it so much less stressful looking for a job now because at least we have one income.

ETA: DH found work by doing online searches and just driving to NY whenever he got an interview. He did a lot of phone interviews at first and only went in person as he made it further down the short list.

let's see...when we moved to NC
me and him in a moving truck. me pregnant.
knew no one
not a single job lead
no cars
i had never even been to charlotte before
had money in the bank and cobra policy

i talk, a lot.
2 weeks after a ton of dh filling out applications...i start talking to a girl in the mall.
turns out, her best friend is a restaurant headhunter.
that was 8 PM
the next morning 9 AM...her friend called...with NINE interviews set up.

DH has been at the job 4 years.

I see you're pregnant. I don't think I could do it pregnant or kids, but we moved to San Diego without jobs. it took about 5 months to find jobs!!! Good thing that we had a good savings. We still talk about that as our early retirement - we had a great time.
