Moving cross country

DH and I are considering moving out west. We were having a discussion last night about the move and what we should bring. He says to sell everything and I'm not so sure I want to do that.
We've been married for almost 5 years, and have 2 DC and live in a two bedroom home, no basement, no garage. Most of our "overstock" is stored in my IL's attic. So we don't really have that much stuff, but definitely enough to warrant a moving company.

Basically, if you like what you already have, would you sell your stuff and buy brand new or keep your stuff and pay to move it?

Good luck with the move!!! What state are you planning on moving to?

If I already liked what I had, I would keep it and pay to move it. I have a hard time finding things I like, so it would frustrate me to start all over with all new furniture if I didn't have to.

i think its probably cheaper to pay to move it then sell it and get less then what you paid and then have to buy new.

unless your stuff is extremly high end, I can't see you getting all that much for used stuff.

Besides, its either a hassel to move it, or a hassel to live without stuff and have to pick out and buy new again.

I'd rather just take what i already have.

We moved from NY to Florida and here is my opinion-if you can get rid of what you don't need and what you would be willing to replace, do it. You don't need the clutter and these moves are not the cheapest, so the less you have, the less you spend. Things that you cannot part with don't get rid of and same with things that are high end (like crystal and china)

Honestly I think it would be cheaper to take what you already have. We moved from NY to DC last summer & the price wasn't that bad. They go by weight of the items not distance. I would defin get rid of anything you don't need & donate or sell things before the move. Then have companies come in & they will walk around your home & give you an estimate.
