Mothers who BF......question???

Wow...this is my first post as a parent. Chat Icon

Did/do you feel like in the first few weeks that's all you do?? DD wants to BF like every hour during the day. I bottle feed her pumped breast milk at night because I just can't be up every hour.

Am I doing something wrong??

That's why I stopped after 2 weeks. I was just overwhelmed with everything and I was exhausted. Sounds normal - hang in there! Chat Icon

Totally normal! I lived in my rocker for the first 6 weeks ... and I watched more TV in those 6 weeks than I did in my entire life (TiVo was my best friend). I promise it gets better!!

Keep up the good work! Chat Icon

Re: Mothers who BF......question???

Thanks everyone!! I know they say every 2 hours, but she wants to feed a lot. The good thing is that she is awake most of the day now and she is starting to sleep 2-3 hours at night (with bottle feeding).

I just can't get her off the nipple shield. I used that as a help to get started and now I can only get her to latch on by herself every once in a while. This is so frustrating but I want to keep with it.

Same exact here (except no TiVo here). We were TV zombies, completely sleep-deprived. DD nursed ALL the time.

It will get better, eventually! Chat Icon

Sounds completely normal!! I don't have any advice for the nipple shield, but I just wanted to say good luck! Sounds like you're doing great!

Re: Mothers who BF......question???

Sounds like the joy of being a new mom. It is really tough in the beginning and sometimes for longer. My DS still eats every 2 hrs. during the day. Luckily at night he either sleeps through or wakes once. It requires dedication and a real desire to BF in order for it to work in the longterm, but it sounds like you are doing great!!!!

Re: Mothers who BF......question???

Yes...DD was always eating and in the very beginning my boobs were killing me...it took me over 2 weeks to not feel pain when she was eating. Now it's almost 4 months later and I'm so glad I stuck with it...although DD is not so good at taking a bottle because I never really make her...so I would highly recommend keeping up with those bottles at night so she's used to them.

Re: Mothers who BF......question???

I am so excited I can finally say this:

It DOES get better!!!!

Sadly, I don't know WHEN- just suddenly one day I was like, "Hey- this is better than I remember it being!" As you and DD get to know one another and learn how to work together you'll see how easy BFing is....

Re: Mothers who BF......question???

It sounds just about right. I felt like Ds lived on my boobs, but it does get better. They will start to go for longer between feedings and most babies (not mine) start to feed for shorter amounts of time as they get better at it. My son was always a lounging type of eater.

My DD is 3 weeks and it's getting a bit easier although she totally knows the difference between the breast and the bottle. I pump so my DH can take a feeding at night but she gets soo fussy. She's a boobie girl! But she did sleep for 4 1/2 hours straight so it is getting better.

Re: Mothers who BF......question???

u are doign a good job. dont worry about the bottle. its ok to get her used to the bottle early on. this is what i did with DS and he takes a bottle very easily. as long as its BM it really doesnt matter if its breast or bottle.
