Mothers who are pumping
What do you do with your baby when you are pumping? Also, how often do you pump and for how long? TIA

Re: Mothers who are pumping
I pump every 3 or 4 hrs during the day (not nursing at all), I try not to make it a super rigid schedule. I used to pump once during the night when DS was waking up to feed, but now that he sleeps thru the night, so do I. Normally this makes enough for all except one bottle a day for DS, which I just give formula for.
I try to pump right after I feed DS a bottle, so he is full and content. Then I will put him on the activity mat at my feet while I sit on the floor w/ him and pump, or I'll prop him up in the boppy with a couple of his soft block toys to grab at. Or sometimes I'm lucky and he'll be sleeping while I pump.
For two of my pumping sessions each day, my DH is usually home too, so he can either feed DS a bottle while I pump or at least entertain him.

Re: Mothers who are pumping
I put Noah on the playmat, but in the beginning, he cried and cried so it was hard.
I pump at around 8/9 am, 6 pm and 11 pm. I only pump, I pump around 30 oz per day. I pump until my bosoms are full, usually around 7/8 minutes.
I have been doing it for 5 months already so I have it down to a science!

Re: Mothers who are pumping
thanks. it's seems like everytime i go to pump (3-4 hours), he decides to cry! Just wondering if anyone else had any secrets. I'm getting about 26 oz a day, but am pumping about 6-8 times a day (if he lets me). I wonder if I pumped less often, would i still get the same amount?

I would put DS in his boppy before he was mobile. If he cried, he cried; things had to be done.
I would take advantage as much as I could his naps.

I found that if it was a day here or there, I would get around the same, but once you drop a pumping session, eventually the supply decreases

I found this happened too. When I dropped from every 6 hours to every 8, then every 12 (not by choice -- just busy) my supply decreased alot even though I continued to pump for 2-5 minutes past being empty. I am in the process of trying to rebuild my supply.
For now, DH is home so he watches the baby while I pump if she isn't sleeping. Early in the morning, I feed her first, then put her in the swing or the boppy, unless she has fallen back to sleep.
