Mosquitos!

We had very few at the beginning of the summer. They were a non issue because we had a ton of dragonflies that eat them. Well now, the dragonflies are gone and the mosquitos are full force. I got like 3 bites in 5 minutes in my yard. What do you do about this? Spray the yeard? Bug zapper? Call the town?

Mosquitos!

OMG us too. DH just sprayed that cutter back yard spray again after doing it once earlier in the summer but I just called the town this morning because it's really bad. Standing outside for a few minutes and they attack. Supposedly the town will send someone...they took my address.

Hold on just a second...

You can call the town about mosquitoes? Like "there are 4 of them headed east on sunrise highway. Send a squad car."

I called the town once because the sanitation workers threw my garbage can and it hit my car and they basically laughed at me. But I can call about mosquitoes and they'll do something?

I had no clue until I went on my town FB page to see what others are doing. I'm in Nassau County. I will cut and paste what one of the posts said:

Nassau County Department of Public Works (DPW) is responsible for mosquito control which includes the application of larvicides and adulticides. DPW monitors thousands of street basins, sumps, ponds, and hundreds of miles of fresh water streams. Breeding sites are inspected for the presence of larvae. Ditches are maintained on the county’s south shore which allow fish to reach and consume mosquito eggs, larvae and pupae. DPW will continue aerial applications of larvicide in the non-populated areas on the south shore salt marshes to control populations of salt marsh mosquitoes.

Re: Mosquitos!

We got a trap from Costco. It emits carbon dioxide, which attracts them, and then they get trapped. It definitely helps reduce them.
That and wear lots of Deet

Re: Mosquitos!

I was hanging out with a group of people last night and every second someone was slapping their legs or arms. We are all now blood brothers/Sisters

I got a few bites and DH was eaten alive. I still don't get why they devour some people and just nibble on others.

I usually wear bug spray and just be sure to take a shower to wash it off before bed

I Chat Icon at that, too.

I think mosquitos like a certain type of blood and are attracted to that. I also read they like someone who has eaten certain things. I have no sources for any of this. I am fortunate that I do not get many mosquito bites, but I get them sometimes.

Re: Mosquitos!

OMG they have been awful. My son is allergic and has to take Benadryl every single day every 6 hours. His legs have marks all over them. I feel so bad for him. They supposedly sprayed my neighborhood but I haven't seen a difference.
