Monthly Savings After Home Ownership
Personal question but here it is....If you don't want to, please don't answer this. And please be honest... I am trying to gauge my savings and accessing my lifestyle.
For those who have already own your own home, how much after mortgage, and whatever bills, do you save per month on average? I am adding a poll with numbers that I think most people are saving approx. I believe most people are choice #4.
(I believe you are able to answer this poll only and no one will know who you are )

Right now I am a student & my husband is paying all the bills. We aren't really saving. But we do have a nice ER fund built up.

We save more than a $1,000 a month... however, we are very frugal and are saving our money so we can improve our house and so i can hopefully stay home for a little while when we have our baby. also, this is with TWO salaries (we could not do this just with one of our salaries) and we also bought as inexpensive of a house as we could. once our baby comes and I need to stop working for awhile, we will be dipping into savings. we are doing okay, but we're not rich by any means.

we save a lot every month bc we bought a coop so our payment is lower than that of a house

When #1 was born and I wasn't working, savings per month wasn't much. Now that I'm back to work we save a lot.

We save a lot, but we have no kids and both work FT. We also spent about $100K less than what we were approved for.

If you count our IRAs, 401ks and TSP we save quite a bit on top of saving cash. We live lean in order to do so.

Our "plan" after we bought the house, was to live off DH $ and bank mine. However, coming from a tiny apt. we didnt realize how much furniture we would need. So right now we are saving very little each month, but we have AWSOME furniture ! LOL

If I understand your question correctly.....
Our house costs more than our apartment did. Because now we need to pay all the utilities.
However, the mortgage tax deduction more than makes up for it at the end of the year! That saves us money.
We were married with 2 significant incomes + no children living in an apartment = we had no deductions.

I'll give an exact...right now we pay ourselves $500 a month to go into savings. This is after paying all bills, mortgage and whatever extra bills we have from fixing up the house. Fixing up is starting to dwindle down, so when that happens, I plan on putting away more.

Well, we save in a few different ways.
In addition to banking a monthly amount in a regular savings account we also save the majority of our annual bonuses and our tax refund.
We also max out 401Ks, save for DDs education and try to put something in IRAs.

DH and I have been doing a lot better with saving. I am saving in a more traditional savings account and DH is investing his savings. We are hoping to diversify this year (not including our 401K accounts).
