Kid Rock had to flee a restaurant in Cannes Thursday night when his ex, Pamela Anderson, walked in.

The rocker had been celebrating the French film festival at Baoli with his newer model, May Anderson, along with singer James Blunt and sizzling Swedish centerfold Victoria Silvstedt. The bash was thrown by Unik, owner of New York's Gin Lane.

"All of a sudden," says our spywitness, "Kid is like, 'Let's go, let's go!' He grabs May and pulls her out, and they leave right away. Kid Rock freaks out, and I've never seen him like that in my life. He left James Blunt there!"

Rock left Blunt clueless in the loo, but they hooked up later at the V.I.P. Room, where strippers abounded and Jude Law was sitting on the floor, philosophizing.

Blunt, possibly still pining over deep dish Petra Nemcova, seemed happy with the escape. "The strippers were giving him cigarettes out of their mouths, giving him lap dances. He was totally into it. He was there all night."

Back at Unik's party, model Marcus Schenkenberg, another Pamela Anderson ex, ratted Rock out. "He told her Kid Rock was in the building, and she got upset. Marcus said, 'Yeah, and I think he's going to leave because you're here.' Then she got on her BlackBerry and started texting somebody — she was so mad that he would leave to avoid her."

Big bad Rock! It's not like Pam had a rolling pin or anything.

Meanwhile, Leonardo DiCaprio had paparazzi tripping over themselves when he joined actress Daya Fernandez at a yacht party. Contrary to British reports, we're assured it wasn't his yacht and Fernandez is just a friend. DiCaprio, who is due to begin shooting "Revolutionary Road" today in N.Y.C. with his "Titantic" co-star Kate Winslet, came to Cannes to screen "The 11th Hour." Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter celebrated the compelling eco-documentary with a party on Saturday at the Hotel du Cap.

Mischa Barton, Valentino, Faye Dunaway, Kyle MacLachlan, Kid Rock, Kerry Washington, Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg were among those strolling through the hotel's grounds, made trippy with smoke and colored searchlights. Besides the sight of Carter and actress Kelly Lynch leading a conga line, the big head-turners were Bono and his U2 mates, who came over after giving a mini-concert to launch their film "U2 3D." We hear the Irish minstrels are headed next to Morocco to gather sounds for their next album.

John Mayer wasn't licking his wounds alone in his room Thursday night after his split with Jessica Simpson.

The sensitive strummer was at Stereo "hitting on every super-skinny girl there," swears our source, "and only the really skinny ones." That would be the opposite of the voluptuous Simpson, who was in Cannes announcing "Major Movie Star," which she’ll start lensing this summer while Mayer goes on tour.

Despite the flirtations, particularly with one Asian model, Mayer left alone — perhaps already regretting the rift with Simpson.

It's not the first time the high-profile pair have split. In fact, says a music-business source, "they've broken up about a dozen times this year, and they've always come back together. They're adorable together."

Why all the breakups before the makeups?

Mayer wasn't always happy with the way the sexy "Employee of the Month" star dressed, claims one source. And it's not easy having a relationship in the limelight, says another source, and "the separations were difficult."

Perhaps it was during these hiatuses that Mayer began to keep off-and-on company with an L.A. model named Caroline, one source claims. He "was always seeing the other girl anyway," said the source.

Simpson's spokeswoman Cindi Berger said, "I don't comment on my clients' personal lives."

Ditto Mayer's spokesman, Ken Sunshine.

Soul singer Robin Thicke cleans up well in the June/July issue of Giant magazine, out June 5. Maybe it's that baby face that caught the eye of actress wife Paula Patton, whom Thicke met at a party 14 years ago. "I asked her to dance, and she kind of brushed me off like, 'This little white boy can't dance!'" he says. "I kept coming up behind her and trying to Bobby Brown her, and she started being like, 'Okay, this white boy got rhythm!'"

LINDSAY Lohan partied without Calum Best the other night, but friends say the two are "still going strong." The unstoppable starlet hit the Anchor Bar on Spring Street with two pals and was spotted "drinking vodka straight from the bottle." She then hopped down the street to Sway for Frankie Inglese's Thursday night party, where she grooved for a good hour before going back to Anchor for another round. By 3 a.m., Lohan was on a jet back to L.A. Her rep had no comment.

Why can’t pop princesses just all get along?

Avril Lavigne and the Duff sisters, Hilary and Haylie, were both invited to attend Maxim’s Hot 100 Party at the Hotel Gansevoort last week, but a long-simmering feud made handlers go to great lengths to keep them apart.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, according to Metro New York, and Lavigne threatened to storm out of the party.

They were scheduled to come to the event at different times, but a rep told the mag, the rivals “unfortunately arrived at the same time.”

The situation created some “definite tension,” and not long afterwards, an upset Avril was “threatening to take off” and “driving everyone crazy.”

Elsewhere at the party, fellow revelers were wondering what Sophia Bush was up to when she reportedly cut the line to the bathroom and entered with two friends, and reports Metro New York, “stayed in the stall for a long, flush-free stretch of time.”

Marilyn Manson says that his marriage to burlesque star Dita von Teese collapsed because she tried to change him.

“She (Von Teese) said that she tolerated the lifestyle because she hoped I would change and threatened to leave if I didn’t,” the goth rocker tells the June issue of Spin. “I was sleeping on the couch in my own home. I was no longer supposed to be a rock star. I was someone who had to be apologized for. I wasn’t prepared to be alone. I came out of this naked, a featherless bird ... I was completely destroyed. I had no soul left.”

Luckily, the 38-year-old Manson was able to reclaim his soul by having an affair with 19-year-old Evan Rachel Wood after she dressed up like Lolita from the Stanley Kubrick movie.

“She’s nothing less than a muse,” he told the mag. “It might sound strange, but this made me want to live.”
