This was an email I received and im quoting what was said in email...
"This is why I do not post pics of my kids online......
turning off location settings does not prevent a savvy pedifile from tracking your children down..... With all of the black hat hackers and cyber intrusions, don't think that your children will be safe with simple account settings, anything can be hacked!!!
And people assume that pedifiles are strangers....pedifiles can be one of the hundreds of people you "FRIEND" on Facebook........ WAKE UP PARENTS!!!"

If this is true how do you prevent it?????

Is it bad that I don't trust someone who can't spell pedophile? I don't really understand--if someone wants to steal a child, couldn't he go to any park and steal one?

I saw the video a few weeks ago. Even without turning off the GPS, my husband nor his geeky tech friends could figure out any info from pictures I posted on Facebook.
I just don't think it's necessary to freak out about it. Turn off the GPS feature, and it's a non-issue.

I'd like to know how as well. I have every single setting on my FB as private as can be. I don't get how anyone could get to my pictures who is not friends with me.

My Facebook didn't come up on google either, nor did any of my pictures...
The only way your private pictures are public is if YOU share via that "public link" under your picture. Random people can't see that.
If your set up to NOT come up in the search feature on Facebook, you will not come up on google.

I agree..I have set my setting for the absolute private setting I can set it too..I also turned off search engine search (so I dont come up on google) and that public link only shows up when YOU view your pics so you can share them with non-fb people...only if you choose to share it...

So what your really saying is... you HEARD somewhere that its possible to still see peoples pics that are private but you really have no idea how it works or how to do it....
also as far as GPS and location info in a photo is concerned.. sites like facebook, myspace and even flickr (i believe) will not automatically upload this data. 99% of the time this info is stripped to keep the photos small for storage.

This is true. I work in technology and I have asked some of our resident pros about this.
This is why I don't worry about stuff like this.
If some psycho really wants to find me, they are going to find me. GPS or no.
