How many years/months apart are your children?

Is it better to have them closer in age, or to wait a few year?

I ask because I'm 35 - and DH and I keep going back and forth with should we wait or start ttc when Emma is a year? Is that crazy?

Re: Mom's with 2 +

I am 36 .

Sammy is almost 4 (May29)
Sara is 7 weeks (Feb 15)

I think it depends on yourself. I for one didnt think Icould handle two kids so close together. I wanted to enjoy Sammy first and have him be a bit more indepedent before I had another

Sometimes I think that too - That we should wait and just enjoy Emma, but then I think, if we wait too long, it may not happen.

#1 and #2 are 21 months apart and #2 and #3 will be 23 months apart. We pretty much knew we wanted 3 kids if possible and I definitely felt the time crunch. I cant say whether I'd do it differently if time was on my side..maybe...probably...I actually dont know... But whatever the case, I found 2 kids that close manageable - although sometimes it takes it's toll now that I am 7m preggo - both my kids are high energy. I'll have to report back after I have #3. I think Im going to have to go to sleep at 8pm to keep up with them.

I don't think you are crazy to TTC when your daughter is a year. Like I said, I think its very manageable. But you do have some time, 35 is not as "old" as it once was. LOL

Nope you're not crazy - and if you are, then at least there will be a whole ward of us together.

Joseph & Maddie are 22 months apart (got pregnant the month Joseph turned 1). I wanted mine close together - closer than they were but lost track of time and suddenly Joseph was turning 1 and I was 34.

I love that they play together, that potty training Joseph encouraged Maddie to want to do it earlier (she was 15 mos when she started it but didn't actually get it until recently), that Joseph learning to read makes Maddie want to learn, etc. For me it was easier not to give Joseph the time to be independent since he has no memory of not having Maddie around. There was less jealousy than had I spaced them further apart.

There are pros & cons to spacing them apart- but no matter what you decide to do, I think most people are glad with what they picked.

Elizabth and I were preggo together all 3 times Chat Icon so my boys are close to her age differences.
The first 2 are 17m apart Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I wanted the "2yrs apart" rule, but didnt think it would happen so quick when we "werent really trying just yet" Chat Icon Chat Icon

And now #2 will be 2 1/2 when # 3 comes along (I made sure we passed the 2yr mark Chat Icon )

Its really up to you. WE handle what comes our way in life. Its hard to give this type of advice since everyone is so different.

Yes, its hard at these ages, but some says its easier when they grow up together so close in age, similar interests, etc. When they are far apart in age, they are at different points in growing up and its harder to entertain em all...

There's really no right or wrong. You will figure it out, whatever comes your way! Chat Icon

Thank you for the positive feedback.

My sister is in a similar situation as you - She just had #3 on Friday. She keeps telling me not to do it!Chat Icon

It's not that I think 35 is old, but I may want to have 3 too - I'd really like to be done before I'm 40!

I feel the same way Liz does. Chat Icon My 2 are 25 months apart. It could have been 15 months apart as we started TTC #2 when #1 was 5 months. For me, the first month or two was very tough. I had no help (outside of when DH was home from work) and my 2 year old wasn't exactly thrilled with getting less of mommy's attention. Chat Icon

DH and I are still "in discussion" re: #3. We hope to agree 100% either way by the end of the year. I'll be 41 in October and it took us 11 months to conceive our 2nd so there's no question that time is *not* on my side. Chat Icon

Mine will be 2 years apart, and at the rate we are going, probably to the day Chat Icon I defintitely wanted them 2 years apart, DH wanted 3 years between (I guess I won that one! Chat Icon ). Now that the day for #2 is almost here, I have doubts about having them so close (even though 2 years isn't bad), I still feel like Andrew deserves some more time with just mommy and daddy.

At the same time, I am almost 34 and am happy with the current family situation and can't rule out #3 100% yet, although I am pretty sure. SHould we decide on #3, I will be over 35, but that does not concern me.

my two children are 20 months apart.
i actually found it easy to have them so close together. i was still use to no sleep, and bottles and diapers and all that stuff. plus i had all the essentials from baby #1 for baby #2. practially all brand new also. imo having them close together was the right decision for me.Chat Icon

I just had baby #2, my children almost three years apart, Literally Abbie was born 12 days befor Alex's 3rd b-day..

For me personally, I wish i would have had them closer.. I am only six weeks into this lol.. but even when I was pergnant.. I had to run around after my son, and hes a VERY active little bugger.. and got into everything.. at least being preggo with a baby that still naps entitles you to at least a cat nap!

My pregnancy was oging to be a difficult one as it was froma previous injury I obtained during hte birth of my son, so I knew it was gonna be tough.. I agree with what everyone said in trust your gut.. who cares what your family thinks "your'e smoking" Chat Icon to TTC again so soon.. I say go for it.. as long as you and DH are on the same page.. Rock on! Good Luck!

Oh thats another thing too.. most of my sons stuff we already gave to friends and family who had babies after me..I kicked myself for some of the useful and expensive items that i gave away and thought "oh I could always buy it later"..

AND having them even three years apart.. I feel like I "forgot" so much stuff.. most of it was little things like -duh- I should buy files to do babys nails.. My son gets his clipped, I am a biter, and DH clips, so we hadnt a file in the house.. washcloths... are great and used incessantly.. we all use spouffs.. including my son! LOL..

My son is 4 1/2 years old & my girls are 5 1/2 months old. I wanted that big of a gap. I was enjoying my alone time w/ Patrick. If I was younger I might have even waited another year longer.
