Moms who work from home

Need some organization help....
I was offed a position to work from home part-time.
The job entails a lot and of course some days I find myself working more than part time.
Just juggling lots of locations. I started last month.
I do have a work computer and ip phone set up. We have an office, but I find it easier to work in the kitchen and have my folders and notebook available.
My boys are 1 and 3 so they're not an easy age either. My 3 yr old goes to school every day for a few hours, which helps and my 1 yr old takes a long nap in the afternoon, which gives me about 2 hours to do some work, calls, etc.

Just looking for some advise. I keep my computer open all the time since I just do answering emails and spreadsheets. I keep folders in a portable bin I take out every morning.
Just tough too when I'm doing something and a quick conf call gets set up or they need something ASAP. There's no such thing as part time and set hours anymore I guess. Lol

Re: Moms who work from home

Are your conference calls scheduled ahead of time or on regular days/times? Maybe you could get a mommy's helper for those times.

I work full-time from home, but I still have chlidcare because I have to jump on calls and also have to work out of the house on the road a lot. It's just not possible for me to work while my kids are around, they bang on my keyboard and yell in the background while I am on calls.

I have a separate office in my house, where I spend my days when I am working.

No... Can't sched the calls ahead of time. Usually they're for the next day or later that day. Once in s while I get an email to jump on one ASAP. It's juggling a few locations to get stuff set up for events starting this month and for the year. I'm only part time do never though to get a helper since I'm not making a ridiculous amount. Just enough for extra cushion. I left my let job bc it was crazy hours and the boys were in daycare all day. Now I get to be with them and work, but I find myself on the computer a lot.
Best thing I got was the iPhone so I can handle some emails when I'm out and the boys are usually good keeping themselves busy during the day. Usually Fridays my parent's come. To help. Just finding the sporadic meetings and requests out of the blue tougher.

I work from home full-time. I know exactly what you're talking about with the conference calls you all of a sudden have to jump on. My kids are a little older (3 & 5). I try and work in my dining room, and they usually are downstairs in the den with their toys, tv, puzzles, etc. When I do get one of those last minute calls (and this is going to sound terrible), I either try and set them up with a quiet activity to do, coloring, movie, etc. or if all else fails, I give them lollipops to keep them quiet Chat Icon

I worked part time at home for a year. Even with a flexible schedule in phone calls and writing reports, I'd get a few hours of childcare in the home if I did it again. I found it too stressful trying to juggle naps etc around my work.
