Moms who went/ or will be going from Full Time to Part Time

Did you address the issue/ request to come back from leave and start part time , before you left for maternity leave i.e. when you negotiated your leave or did you wait until after you had the baby/ were back at work to discuss it?

I,m thinking about asking to come back to work part time (4 days a week) after maternity leave but not sure when the best time to bring it up is, when Im negotiating my maternity leave? some other time before I go on leave or when I get back? just wondering on timing.

Thanks!

I've already discussed it with my Director. I told her that I would like to come back part time (20hrs) but if we can't do that than I'm not coming back at all. She completely undestands what I'm wanting to do. I my case she is waiting a little longer before approaching my corporate office to see if we can work something out.

I think it all depends on where you work, and the relationship you have with your management/boss. I'm really close with mine so it wasn't a big deal to talk to her about my thoughts and wishes because I knew that she would support them and see what she could do for me.

I plan on doing this, but not within the same job. So I guess I'm no help. Sorry.
I work in the city now and I just can't see traveling 3hrs daily to work. Even if its only 3days/wk.

After DS2 I returned to work for the remainder of that year 4 days a wk.
I brought this up about a month before I returned to work (I wanted to negotiate it after end of year bonus)
Now I work for 90% pay and am only off every other Friday.
After this baby, I onlly want to work 2 days wk. I just proposed this to my boss b/c with 2 others at home, I can't wing it - I need to make arrangements.

I am going from FT to 4 days a week. I brought this up in late April or early May and I am due 7/31. It was actually easier than I thought (my company is not very woman friendly). I suggest doing it earlier vs. later. I had to give up certain clients in order to do this so I had to have a few meeting to come up with a game plan which is still being worked out.
