Alex is learning hebrew - she's in a hebrew immersion program at school and DH speaks it to her as well. She isn't proficient yet - she understands about 60% of it, but doesn't really speak much of it yet.

I've noticed though that lately she's fond of "making up" words for common things. LIke yesterday she told me that the hallway is called "OMA" - that's not hebrew by any stretch.

Is this something common with children learning a new language, to make up words of their own?
