Moms of 2+, question about Christmas morning

What do you do on Christmas morning if your kids get up at different times?

DD#1 (3.5 years at Christmas) is usually up for an hour or more before her sister (6 months old at Christmas). Obviously the 6 month old will have no idea, but I’d like to do presents all together—but how can I really make a 3.5 year old wait until the baby gets up?? She’ll be banging pots & pans around to wake her sister up then Chat Icon And I obviously don't want to wake a sleeping baby Chat Icon

Just curious.

ETA: She is a patient kid and would be fine waiting after a small protest first, but I just feel badly making her wait.

maybe set aside one special present that she can open with you when she wakes up, and the rest have to wait. or have her help you make a special xmas breakfast, or go out to pick up donuts or bagels together. make it a special time just for you two

Re: Moms of 2+, question about Christmas morning

We have DSS wait for DS to get up. While waiting we have some special time and make hot chocolate and have pumpkin bread.

My parents always did the same thing, there were 7 of us - at first it was waiting for the younger kids to get up and then later the younger kids had to wait for the teenagers to get up Chat Icon

Re: Moms of 2+, question about Christmas morning

I know this isn't the same but..

My older brother is a late sleeper and a grouchy kid to wake up back in the day. So I was up earlier.

Heck I was up before EVERYONE in the house. I'd have alone time with Dad. We'd make cinnamon buns. Now that I'm older I realize he took his time. We'd giggle and play and have long talks about what Santa may have brought etc. I'd even sit in front of the tree because it was still dark and it was so pretty (i have very fond memories of those quiet times with Dad). By the time the buns were done or bascially in a kid's mind time would fly and brother would be awake.

Oh yes, she loves to cook/bake...she & DH make pancakes all the time and they could do that. I edited my original post b/c after typing it, I realized that she really is patient and understands why she'd have to wait....it would just be ME feeling badly for her I guess Chat Icon

I agree this is a great idea. Let her open one present and then do breakfast or something.

My kids are NOT patient but for some reason they wait for eveyone to wake up while they are jumping around all excited!!!

eta: I like the baking idea. Or start making a thank you card to santa for all the chrsitmas gifts.

Do you do stockings?

When I was a kid I was allowed to open my stocking stuff while waiting for my sister (3 years younger)

When my sister and I were older, we were allowed to do the same and wait for our parents Chat Icon
