Moms of 2 or more - esp 2 under 2....
Did your oldest have trouble when you brought home the new baby? If so, what did they do? How long did it last? Any tricks or advice?
Dd is 15 months old and Ds was born on 5/22. Since bringing him home dd no longer sttn, she fights bedtime and nap time and the newest thing is to start crying the moment I pick up Ds - even if she's playing with Dh or watching tv.
Any ideas on what to so and how long this can last?? Dh goes back to work tomorrow and I don't know how I'm going to handle her

Mine are 17 months apart.
It's tough... we didn't have so much jealousy as we had complains about the lack of attention. DS though DD was a cat for a long time.
If you can have relatives come to play with your older one, that would be great...
Otherwise, I got into a routine & stuck with it. Yes, there is crying & protesting, but we got over it. Napping for DS was always hard, but I forced him to nap (held baby or napped her while putting him to nap). We'd double stroller & go out a lot once the younger was old enough.
ETA: the competition for attention lasts well into adulthood... and probably beyond from watching friends & family

I don't think that ever goes away with siblings, maybe not for attention but def the competition

My oldest is 20 mos older than her sister and she went through a phase after DD2 was born where she would wake up really early--like 6am compared to 7:30/8. Dealing with a newborn too, that was really rough. Luckily it only lasted two or three weeks.

DS was 23 months....we went through a few weeks of him not sleeping well (waking up at 2am) and he would get upset when i would hold the baby. It was just a phase and got better around 3 months. Now that DD is 5 months and laughs at him and interacts with him, it's even better - he likes to make her laugh. I think what helps is to 1) get your DD involved somehow in helping with the baby. I would always say to DS can you hand a diaper for baby, baby needs her paci etc. 2) Carve out some special time with DD. I would take DS out for an hour on a saturday morning, play in the backyard with just him...they still need their mommy time!

my daughter was two and a half when my baby was born. What I found helpful was reading a lot of big sister books to her. I think she started to appreciate her role in the baby's life. Also it is obviously important to pay a lot of individual attention to her. Good luck. I am sure this will pass. A classmate of hers in daycare also had a younger sibling around the same time and the adjustment for him was really difficult but he is so much better now. I think with my daughter in only really lasted a few weeks but it still pops up occassionally.

I'm going through the sane thing..my dd is 18 months and my ds was born on 5/19...my dd is just not the same girl..she's ok until I have to pick him up and change him or feed him..it breaks my heart to see her so upset but I'm doing the best I can to keep everyone happy...I hope it's gets better soon for everyone

The hardest part was getting DS to be quiet when I put DD down for a nap... a sound machine took care of that! DH helped a lot and paid a lot of attention to DS when he got home from work, especially in the beginning when I fed/napped with DD. As she got older I made sure to spend a lot more time with him, or ask him to help. They are 18 months apart so it was HARD in the beginning but they are best friends now
