Moms of 1-2 year olds - Breakfast Question for you
I am still giving DD the Plum or Earths best multigrain cereal or oatmeal for breakfast.. she is 15 months.. just wondering.. at what point do you transition to "regular" oatmeal andwhat kind do you use?
Thanks!

Re: Moms of 1-2 year olds - Breakfast Question for you
I batch cook for the babies (13 months old), so each week they get the same thing for breakfast each day (and they don't mind!)
This week was belgian waffles... served with banana and yogurt.
Sometimes I will do homemade buttermilk pancakes or homemade french toast sticks or homemade mini muffins also with fruit and yogurt.
You can switch to adult oatmeal at any time now! I bet you can batch cook steel cut oats too and add some cinnamon and maple syrup :) We just had allergy testing for oats done, so we were waiting before doing that again.
On weekends, I usually do scrambled eggs or hardboiled eggs with fruit & toast.

Baby oatmeal is a lot less sweet (especially earths best). My 2.5 year old still eats it! (we used mixed grains).

My ped recommended that we continue with the baby cereal oatmeal for the iron content. I would guess by about 2 yrs you could switch.
ETA: When I run out of "their" oatmeal, I have given them my Nature's Promise Organic Quick Oats.

Same here. I was kinda bummed I had to wait until DS was 2. When we do switch it will be steel cut oats. There are just too many chemicals in instant oatmeal for my liking.

Personally, I don't think you need to wait. There's no requirement to feed our children oatmeal, so I don't see why you would need something with extra iron when many babies aren't eating oatmeal at all. I'm sure if your child is getting an iron-rich diet, they will do fine on steel cut oats or homemade oatmeal (non-insant).

Thanks I think I'm going to try it early, he needs more in his belly than Gerber oatmeal. Thanks again!

I still give 20 month old ds Earths Best oatmeal but he has had oatmeal at daycare which is probably instant Quaker or something like that.

DS is 22 months and I buy the McCann's Irish Steel Cut Oatmeal and sweeten it with brown sugar or a puree fruit pouch- plum or earth's best. I also occasionally buy the Nature's Promise apple cinnamon oatmeal from stop and shop.
