Mommy Attachment

My 2 year old dd has always been attached to me, but lately its way worse.

She wont let my dh do anything for her. She will play with him, but when it comes time to eat, go to sleep, wake up, brush her teeth, get dressed, take a bath- ANYTHING beyond playing, she only wants me and cries so hysterically if I cant help her. Like screams at the top of her lungs and has a meltdown. Like her soul is crying.

When I have to go into work and one of her grandmas watches her, shes fine. When shes in school, shes fine... Im not there, I know.

Its getting tiresome for me because that means its me doing EVERYTHING for her, plus working, maintaining a home, cooking, cleaning... Im at my wits end...

And now, the bigger issue at hand is, shes started to wake in the middle of the night and doesn't want to go back to bed until she lays down with me in my bed. Or wont let me leave the room until she goes back to bed.

How do I break her out of this? Do I just sorta force my dh to start doing more for her to show her he can do it too? That she can trust him.

Anyone else experience this? Is it just a phase?

My almost 2 year old DD has mommy attachment lately bad. I absolutely think it's a phase, my friend's DS is doing the same thing with her. Our husbands were commiserating over it Friday night haha. I know as kids get older they get super attached to Daddy so I am just enjoying it while it lasts! (My cousin went through this recently, his daughter is 5 months older than mine and she went through a mommy phase followed shortly after by a daddy phase where she wanted nothing to do with mommy).

Re: Mommy Attachment

Could you try going out and leaving dh with dd around a meal time so she has to have him help her and see how it goes?

My dd is going to be 4 in December and is the same exact way you describe. He can't are her ti the bathroom, can't help her get changed, can't bathe her, can't brush her teeth, comb her hair, help her wash her hands. It's me and only me. She's been like this since I can remember. I have no advice but you are not alone. I too am at my Witts end over it. I can't do anything!

I have been going out to run errands and having him give her her bath while I'm out. It sort of gets her in the routine of him doing stuff instead of me. He's very hands on and thankfully she goes with it but if I'm home she always wants to be with me. I find it has helped to disappear for a while and let him get some quality time with just her.

Re: Mommy Attachment

Hi, going through the same at my house. I have boy/girl twins, and it's my daughter who we call glue, because she is stuck on me 24/7

She will cry hysterically for me sometimes, but we insist that she sit with my husband sometimes, and switch her around as much as possible. Yes, she will cry, but eventually calms down. It is a process, and takes cooperation from both parents.

I have 3 children though, so I can't always be the one to help her with what she needs, because I have two others that need me too.

I do not have a solution, just trying to make it less difficult.

Same thing here. If it's just a phase, we have been in this phase for a LONG time. I would say DS has been like this for most of the past year (he's almost 3). Some days he will ask for Daddy (to put him to bed, etc) but most days only mommy will do. I say I cannot wait for the Daddy stage, but I know I will miss it.

Re: Mommy Attachment

My 2 year old is similar. When we go out or run errands, I'm the only one who can push him or he'll cry hysterically. I usually have to give him food and get him dressed. If I leave the room, he follows me and whines until I pick him up. He freaks out if I run upstairs to quickly take care of something and leave him downstairs even if he's with DH or DS1. This has been a very long phase. You're not alone.

Its nice to know Im not alone.

Most days I don't mind it at all, in fact I love it. I LOVE our cuddle time and I do enjoy putting her to bed. There are just sometimes where I would enjoy getting a little more time to myself.

Also I get worried about having #2 and not being able to give her all my attention. I wouldn't even know how to do that to be honest.

It's a long phase.
With DD, we have a mommy attachment.
With DS, a grandma attachment Chat Icon. Been 4 years now...
I tell DH that we have to have another kid for him!

It is annoying sometimes, so we have daddy tasks. This is definite things I will never do like toothbrushing, certain books, etc.

My 2 1/2 year old is the same way. If I'm not home, then he's fine. But if I'm there I have to do everything. If I'm serving dinner and I ask him to go wash his hands with Daddy, I get screaming of "NO, DADDY! MOMMY DO THAT!" Repeat for every little task - putting him in the car seat, getting him his milk, everything. It's sweet and I love that he wants mommy. But OMG it can get tiresome when I'm trying to cook or clean or just go to the bathroom lol.

Hahaha I know! I love that shes attached to me. I love that I am blessed to spend so much time with her (I work part time and mostly from home so Im the one that's with her the majority of the time) and I love our cuddle time, and more than anything I love that she knows I will be there for her. BUT I just need some time to pee! hahaha
