Mommies of girls.. lets talk hair

OMG i love my kiddo Chat Icon

I'm trying to let her hair grow on the sides but its so unmanagable.... think 80's Wings gone wild Chat Icon

So this week I have been putting her hair into pony tails. Just the front half of her hair. I leave plenty of bangs down and she ends up with devil horns (especially after you pull the pony tails down)

- SIT STILL, please????
Really how much fun is it to get a 1yr old to sit STILL long enough to split her hair down the middle, comb out a section and put into a pony tail. then repeat on the other side Chat Icon I once had to literally put them in while walking the full length of my home!

I've tried TV, toys, singing etc. Very little helps but somehow I manage. Honestly my favorite is that I can usually get her hair semi-decent if she's still asleep! Chat Icon

What do YOU do?

- What do we do with these bands?
Ok, so i use ouchless bands. They are smooth and dont catch her hair. But once theyre out they end up all over the place, I know i have two (pink) sitting inside the door of my car. I pulled them out of her hair from the driver side door one night (I was dropping her and jim off) and just stuck them in the door handle, cup thingy.

Is there a accessory to hold them?

- Whatcha using?
She still naps so I'm afraid to put anything in her hair that will hurt if she sleeps on it. So im just using colored ouchless bands.

Do you have any suggestions?

Re: Mommies of girls.. lets talk hair

Kaydyn will not sit still for anything. So I've resorted to doing her hair after she is strapped into her car seat so she can't really wiggle much. Her hair is always in a ponytail just like Pebbles.

My MIL will attempt to put a barrette in her hair, but she usually pulls them out.

I use the little cotton stretchy ponytail holders. She doesn't ever really pull them out so I leave them in while she is napping. I know my MIL takes out whatever is in her hair when she naps.

ETA: a family member gave us little wicker baskets when DD was born so I put all her hair clips in one of them.

I can make one suggestion for the holders is a plain old ziplock bag. Keep one in her diaper bag, and one at home. Or a ring holder (For when you are washing your hands).

I use Faded Glory Hairbands from Walmart(there is a picture of them in that link).

I throw them away when I am done. My youngest DD has always sat still while I do her hair but my oldest wouldn't at that age. I use to let her play on the computer on this site:
Knee Bouncers

She was so into that site at 1 years old that I would be able to do her hair with no fights. I haven't been on that site in years, looks like they added a lot to it!

Re: Mommies of girls.. lets talk hair

ohhh i feel your pain...the more mobile allison is getting the more challenging it is to do her hair. half the time she ends up leaving the house looking like don king cause i just don't fight her anymore, Chat Icon. when i do need to do her hair and i'm desperate, i'll turn on the tv to some cartoons and that usually turns her into a zombie so i can work my magic...but i have like 1 minute, a minute and a half, tops! i also let her chew something while i'm doing her hair. a toy, anything she likes so she's entertained

as far as accessory containers, i try to leave them on her hair at all times. i'll only take them off for bedtime so they're in one spot always. i also use the ouchless type.

for her naps, unless she's got those itty bitty baby clips, i leave her hair accessory in her hair.

If it wasn't for our downloaded videos of Fresh beat band on our iphones, DD's hair wouldn't go up in ponytails either. She will sit still for FBB.

Re: Mommies of girls.. lets talk hair

DD is 3.5 and REFUSES a ponytail. She thinks it makes her look like a boy. "I'M NOT A BOY. I'M A GIRL!"
I think it's because she can't see her hair hanging over her shoulders.

We just trim her bangs to stay out of her eyes and let the rest do what it wants.

Re: Mommies of girls.. lets talk hair

My DD is 13 months and I do either 2 pigtails or 1 pony. Same thing, just the front with the bangs out. I do it while she is still laying down on the changing table, and I give her something from her hygiene basket to play with (lotion bottle, hairbrush etc) and it usually keeps her attention. HOWEVER- I dont comb down the middle for the part. I brush her hair so its nice and fluffy and then use my finger and eyeball it. If I had to comb it even, it would be all over lol. I also put little bows over the ouchless bands. I buy them from walmart/target and she doesn't mess with them. I've been putting bows in her hair since it was just long enough so she would get used to them. I suggest you do it while she is laying down or even try when she's in the highchair with her morning bottle/cup. Good luck, she's adorable.
