Mishaps, Accidents & Blunders While Improving Your Home

I thought it would be funny (if you can laugh about it now) if we shared stories of things that went awry while decorating, renovating and improving our homes.

This happened to me this morning. I decided to finally paint the stair risers, so I set up everything - taped the treads, old towels to cover, my paint tray and brushes all lined up. I am not of the do-it-yourselfers so I was quite proud of myself. I prime the first two risers and back up to do the 3rd one and my bare left foot lands in the OIL primer can, knocking it over . . It covered my entire foot up to the ankle. I try to hop to the kitchen sink, my hands are covered in primer that is quickly drying. I managed to get primer all over my granite counter, on the tile floor, my sink was coated in it as well as my very expensive faucet. Thank God for paint thinner as I was able to remove it.

By the way, the stairs came out great .

That must've really sucked!

I asked DH to paint the inside of the closet for the nursery when I was pregnant and he had a day off. Well, the room gets a ton of light and it was really bright and DH didn't realize he grabbed the wrong can of paint from the garage until he sent me a pic on my phone. By then, the closet was 3/4 of the way painted! He did the green from our laundry room instead of the yellowy/green that the rest of nursery was painted. But it ended up looking awesome so we kept it.
