Miserable - probably TMI...
I am 18w. I am absolutely miserable from being constipated. I have always suffered from constipation throughout my adult life. Prior to being pregnant I was taking a prescription for it but it was a class C drug and I didn't feel comfortable continuing to take it daily once I became pregnant. I have been doing OK throughout the pregnancy. I've had constipation on and off but now in the last week it's the worst it's ever been. I do everything - stool softeners, fiber supplements, milk of magnesia. I even broke down and used an enema and that only helped a little bit. I am starting to feel really uncomfortable and desperate. Has anyone ever had it this bad and if so, what is the safest measure of last resort? I want to take Ex Lax, which always worked for me when things were really bad, but I have read that it's not recommended.

Did you try colace? I have the same problem - Can't say the colace is magic, but it's slightly better (slightly).

When I was pregnant, I tried just about every home remedy I could find. Nothing helped... but then I tried Metamucil wafers and they were a godsend My doctor said they were fine for pregnancy and he is the one who recommended them. You might wanna check those out. Feel better!

Re: Miserable - probably TMI...
Tried the glycerin supps on Saturday. Helped a little but not much. At this point I just want something that will REALLY get things going (lol, tmi) but it seems like there is nothing. I do it veggies and fruit and it feels like if I have to eat more to get it to work then I'll have to become a vegetarian. Sigh.

did you ask your doctor? maybe there's something you can take once or twice just to get things started.
also the thing about colace is you have to take it for a while until it starts to work.

Have you tried eating dried prunes? Those always work like magic for me.
