Miracle Blanket - feeling guilty?

Does anyone feel guilty using this? My parents made me feel bad saying they couldn't believe we put her in a "straight jacket."

Anyone experience this??

Re: Miracle Blanket - feeling guilty?

OMG--my entire family thought i was a LOON and crazy to keep him in a "straight jacket" as they said

I had some family members come in his bedroom with me and I showed them how happy he was when I wrapped him up--he literally would laugh and smile

I copied a page from the MB handbook and kept it on the fridge and I also showed them the "Happiest Baby on the Block Book"

also--swaddling is an age old method that people have been doing for years

Then I would say-do you want to sleep over when he is not swaddled?? that shut them up

dont listen to anyone but yourself

Everyone said that to us too, ignore them. Babies are so tight in utero and are squished much worse than that, it looks bad, but it's so comforting for baby to feel like they are back in the womb.

Don't doubt yourself or 2nd guess yourselfChat Icon

The comments stopped when they saw my DD used to start smiling and cooing when she saw the MB come out, she would get all excited to go bed and go in it.

I used to tell people, you don't like it, you can come here and sleep sitting up holding DD all night long so she feels secureChat Icon

The first thing I asked the nurse to do was teach me how to swaddle the babies. They loved it!

My parents & IL's said the same thing!!!! Don't worry about it, it was the ONLY way DS could get a good night sleep. He liked it and I do believe it helped him feel safe. He is also a restless sleeper and would practically knock himself out flailing about! Now that he is turning over & I can't use it, I miss it so much! Go with what you are comfortble with, DO NOT let other people sway you. Even pediatricians recommend swaddling.

Only from Danny...he was really the only one to see him in it. He never tried to make me feel guilty...it was more of a joke...lol. I would always hear..."Oh Rylan what is mommy doing to you???" He would also take him out of it during "his" nights.

Re: Miracle Blanket - feeling guilty?

I didnt use the Miracle blanket, but I did swaddle...when I went back to work and ILs started watching him, they kept saying how they couldnt put him in the baby straight jacket...well fast forward a few weeks and they realized it was necessary for him to take a good nap, and now they are on board too...
