Minor Fender Bender - Haunting Me.....

On Saturday, DH and I were on DPA heading to the bank. We stopped at a light....were stopped for probably a good 10-15 seconds or so. All of a sudden...BUMP.....somebody hit the back of my SUV. It wasn't hard enough to hurt us but I was surprised and DH's foot was slightly off the break so we moved up a few feet. DH stated that the guy who rear ended us was on his phone and proceeded to pull to the side of the road. Instantly, my blood pressure went thru the roof and I got out of the truck screaming at the guy to get off his phone and what is he thinking, pay attention!!!! He started apologizing and said that they're having a party today and he's got his kids in the car and he's running around trying to get everything together and how sorry he is, asking if we are ok. As soon as he said he had kids in the car, my anger subsided and I was genuinely saying, "Listen, you need to pay attention and stay off your phone." He was really nice, there was no damage, everybody was ok and we left. I look in my rear view as we drove away and the guy puts on his right directional and proceeds to make a left turn.

I know i'm probably being ridiculous but in light of the Diane Schuler thing and all of the events in the news, it makes me wonder if sometimes things can be prevented. Was the guy drunk? He slams into us then drives strangely? I feel like sometimes we don't want to overreact and make an issue out of something silly. What if the guy was drunk or something was not right. He certainly wasn't acting completely normal and was all flustered. I know that if I heard on the news the next day that something happened to those kids, I would never forgive myself.

I don't know what i'm trying to say!! I guess it's just making me wonder if sometimes, we don't want to make a big deal out of things or dismiss clues that something is wrong. Any time there is a tragedy, people analyze the days/events that happened before and why nobody picked up on it. With everything horrible going on in the news, it's making me second-guess and analyze everything. It's a sad world we live in. That's all.

I get what you are say, "what if something had happened, I could have prevented it". Hopefully that man was just flustered from hitting you so that could explain his right directional on and making a left. But, I couldn't agree more with your last line "It's a sad world we live in"

I know the feeling.

DH and I have a friend who is a ticking time bomb.

I often think it's not really my place to intervene because he's really DH's friend, and every one of his friends is afraid to do an intervention with him.

On more than one occasion I have had similar thoughts as you though.......maybe if I say something as the wife of his good friend it could have an impact? I dunno........
