"Milking" the pregnancy?
I am almost 32 weeks and my SIL is having the family come into the city for a bday dinner tonight at Nobu. We live in NJ and I just don't feel comfortable driving into the city during rush hour. Public transportation (aka "the bus") is also an option, but I am just too uncomfortable at this point to ride the bus to Port Authority and then catch a cab. I told DH that if he wants me there then he can pay for a car service here from NJ into the city. Do you think I am being stupid or am I justified in my request?

hmm. sushi = yummy. Do you work in NJ too? If you don't feel comfortable commuting then don't do it. You're pregnant! I don't like commuting ANY further than i need to for work etc... so i understand. How would you get home?

yeah, that's another thing I can't eat a lot of the stuff there tonight 
We'll take a car service home too but DH's company will pay for it most likely (this is how he gets home from the city on nights when he is entertaining)....but the car out there we will pay for.

I don't think you are being stupid, but I do think you should try to go. It is only going to get harder in the next two months and then much, much harder once the baby comes. So now, when its just uncomfortable but not impossible, I think you should go to show SIL and the family that they are important to you. When baby comes you'll likely be leaning on them for all sorts of help...

It is rough during rush hour - I say take the car service! I went to the city during rush hour and I was only 20 weeks, it was such a b!tch to get a cab, since I was walking the opposite way of traffic everyone was bumping into me. I came home that night and was so sore.

Driving into the city is foul at any time, IMO, but esp. when pregnant!
Take a car service. I agree it's probably good to go out now while you still can if you aren't feeling too, too exhausted.
Enjoy! They should have something cooked on the menu that you can eat.

Sorry, I misread. I thought you were saying car service only or you wouldn't show up. As long as the car service isn't going to make it impossible for you to pay your mortgage or buy diapers, well then enjoy the benefits of your financial position and make yourself comfy!

oh - I'm right there with you! I would not want to fight rush hour into manhattan at this point. This is not milking it. Your body doesn't fit the same driving anymore - tell DH it's for safety. Cabbies cut you off left and right - with your arms and feet further away - reaction is not as quick!

I wouldn't do it either. I don't know if you remember but I posted about the Live Earth concert in July, if I should go or not. I'll be in my 6 month by then.
Rather be safe than sorry I'm not going to the show. July heat, 8,000 people, walking, crowds. Just not where I would want to be. I can see it live on tv!
