milk protein allergy moms

My 8 week old twins have been on nutramigen for the past two weeks for a milk protein allergy. They both seem to be doing better.....less explosive poops, less crying. However, they are still staining their diapers every bowel movement (both babies). I don't see it in the stool itself, but when you look at the outside of the diaper, you see it. Sometimes its just a little, other times almost the whole diaper is stained. Shouldn't this be clearing up or am I not giving it enough time?

Also, one baby has developed extremely dry skin....excema like while on nutramigen. Also seems extremely lethargic and unhappy ( although not screaming constantly). He looks sick to me.

Wondering if these things would warrant something completely milk free???

Thoughts?????????..

Eta: will be going to the doctor next week, but just want to hear opinions.

Have the drs retested the diapers? My ped would have gone to Neocate or Elecare at this point with what you are describing.

I have 2 kids who have the milk allergy and both times this was my experience. (Both were on neocate).

I brought the "sicker" twin in last week ( after a little over a week on the nutramigen) because he also appeared to me to have acid reflux. The usual doctor I see was on vacation and the other dr. Gave me an rx for the reflux and said that it can take time for the blood to clear. I brought in the diapers for both boys and they tested negative, which didn't make sense to me as both diapers appeared totally brownish red from the outside (stool was yellow). Feeling frustrated because what the heck is in the diaper then?????

Did you ask the drs about that (the color). They always wanted another diaper the following week and based on other symptoms would go to a neocate or Elecare. To the point that my DD is currently still straining all day (could just be an immature digestive system, she is 5 weeks) and they said if it doesn't stop by 8 weeks they'll send us to a GI. I always thought eczema is a sign of an allergy as well. My drs indicated that things should get better fairly quickly (I realize blood can stay in the stool a few weeks but other symptoms should be better). Good luck. You can always go to a GI on your own depending on your insurance.
