MIL vent - motive behind a comment
My MIL said the weirdest thing, she was holding DS and DS was staring at me smiling (of course bc he hadn't seen me all day) . she kept saying, oh he knows his mom, he is watching you bla bla bla. then she says, oh when he gets a girlfriend he will leave you .
WTH I'm so annoyed by that comment, so much so that I told my DH that it's bothering me and it was a very strange thing to say.
Any thoughts?
On another note, I'm currently working FT and she is watching him. I decided that I want to be a SAHM and give my notice (she doesn't know this) . but this stupid comment totally cemented my decision! To add to this comment, I mean stay home so she is unable to watch him anymore (I'm being spiteful here
)

OMG what is wrong with people! the funny thing is, it's making me think about him getting married and moving out I'm beginning to think that's what she wanted to do, make me worry about this!

"Are you worry that history will repeat itself?"
I don't think I could tolerate that. I seriously think that we should, as a group of DILs, build an arsenal of witty retorts.

this is great! I wish I could have thought of something like that ( I'm very slow these days LOL). I told her, oh well , that's why you should have had a daughter (she has 4 boys) .

Re: MIL vent - motive behind a comment
I say something similar to DH all the time. " What am I going to do when DS grows up and gets married?" DH says we have a lot of time for that. Im kidding about it but I think its a big fear of mothers of sons, especially the evil ones.

Re: MIL vent - motive behind a comment
I've heard that comment numerous times but in the vein of "A son is a son until he takes a wife, a daughter is a daughter for life"
From what I've seen with friends & families - it's true for those moms that f up their relationships with their sons.
Take heart in that - and then think about the motive behind the comment - which probably your MIL is feeling left out.
Also SAHM or WM doesn't make a difference. My son is the kid that would crawl back into the uterus if he could.' While we have a bond that I don't think will ever be broken, at one point it's going to need to stretch in order for him to go on to have healthy relationships without an overbearing mom.

Wow...
How old is your DS? I think you have plenty of time before that happens... What a comment from the MIL...
I'm sure with all these comments from our "gems" of MIL's that we're all going to know how to be an awesome MIL, so we won't have these problems.

what I meant is that I really want to Stay at home now so she is no longer watching him, KWIM? Not because of our bond ( that will be the same whether I work or not)

Re: MIL vent - motive behind a comment
I always say that about my son, I always tell people a daughter is a daughter for the rest of your life, a son is a son until he finds a wife! Its just an old wives tale thingy, I would guess that she didn't mean anything by it. If its bothering you, you should let it go.
I think its really not very nice if you don't let her watch your child because of one comment...and at the end of the day its punishing your son.

Yup, thats why she said that comment because thats how she felt. I really wouldn't read much into it, I don't think she ment it in a bad way towards you.
