Microwave hood question...

Does anyone that has a microwave hood have it not in between two cabinets? We are having an issue with the way our walls are set up and it would be so much better to have the stove and microwave hood in between two cabinets but we will have to do a lot more work on the house in order to do it that way. It would work fine if we could put it next to the window but I don't know what that would look like on the side without a cabinet there. Does anyone else have their kitchen set up like this? If so could you please post a photo...I can't find anything online! Thanks!

Are you redoing your kitchen? New cabinets and such? Mine is between a wall and a cabinet but I know that most semi-custom cabinet companies have...I don't know what they call them but its basically the same color, finish and material as the cabinets but it is thin, maybe 2 inches thin. And that could give the finished looked to the side of the microwave that is not next to the wall. So it almost gives it an enclosed look. We have a floor to ceiling one on the side of my fridge so that it is enclosed vs seeing the side of the entire fridge. With a microwave hood, it would just come to the bottom side of it.
