mexico/punta cana
dh and i are thinking about going to either mexico or punta cana in january for our anniversary.. thinking of either staying at excellence playa mujeres or excellence punta cana. has anyone been to either? we like to stay active so we wanna go somewhere where there is lots to do...

we stayed at excellence punta cana and LOVED it. We also went to Mexico but stayed at Secrets Capri (sick sick deal!!) I liked Excellence better than Secrets but Mexico more than DR. I say go for the Excellence Resort in Mexico!

We've been to both...I personally preferred Punta Cana, simply for the beaches and water. I felt that was nicer than in Mexico. We stayed at the Iberostar in Riviera Maya which was nice. Chichen Itza is awesome (long day but worth it). In Punta Cana we stayed at Majestic Elegance. It wasn't bad, but there are so many to choose from that I would stay somewhere else next time.
The only reason why we stayed away from Excellence in Punta Cana is because its all the way north, and the beach is the atlantic ocean, not the carribbean sea. So the water is rougher. That was important to us, to have the carribbean type beach.

DH and I have been to Excellence Riviera Cancun and Excellence Punta Cana, and will be going to the one in Playa Mujeres this summer. So far, I loved both ERC and EPC. They were very similar. The beach at the EPC was pretty rough since it's on the Atlantic side. We couldn't really swim, just wade out a little. But it was ok since it was really pretty and the pools were great. We liked that the beach went on for a really long way without any other hotels, so it was a pretty walk. I think there's more to do in the Cancun area though.
We're looking forward to EPM. I"m excited to take the ferry over to Isla Mujeres. I think if you pick either destination you will be happy!
