Metal Door Frames
Has anyone ever removed metal interior door frames? Any advise on the easiest way to do this (other than hiring someone ) would be appreciated.

Re: Metal Door Frames
We have them and it is hard to remove with out damaging the surroudning sheetrock. We took one out and DH scored the creavse where the sheetrock meets the "molding" and it still did damage to the sheetrock. After that we just left the rest of the doors because it wasn't worth it and after the paint job we did in the hall I wasn't about to redo it. You might be better off getting new doors.

Re: Metal Door Frames
you need a Sawzall to remove the metal door frame - they are a big pain in the butt.... We only have one left to remove

Re: Metal Door Frames
p.s. our house was built in the 50's and under the metal door frames they used pennies and dimes to level the door - some of the pennies and dimes are worth more than the face vaule

Re: Metal Door Frames
OMG I thought we were the only ones with this problem. We decided not to do this yet since it will cause so much damage to already finished rooms. Instead we replaced their ugle doors with the 6 pannel doors and found that we had to use a sawsall to make another hole for the door handle in the metal frame since the old doors had their handles placed too high up for the new doors
