Menu observation

Ever notice how much better the food sounds depending on how many adjectives are used to describe it?

Just an observation, I always notice this now when I am out at a restaurant and it makes me laugh thinking how I would call it at home.

example:
grilled chicken
vs.
marinated organic free-range chicken grilled to perfection and topped with an herb-infused balsamic glaze

I read a blurb in a magazine that stated people had a strong preference towards the food with the fancier descriptions even though it was prepared the exact same way as food with simpler ones.

whenever i feel all guilty about people's fancy menus I try to translate them into something like "grilled chicken with spices, side o broccoli" and feel a little (not much) better....

I do it on purpose. I post my menus on the fridge for Rob and the boys.. the better they sound, the more excited they are to eat! And honestly.. it makes cooking feel less like a chore and more like an adventure for some reason. It's all in the way you word it!

As far as restuarants go, that is a total marketing strategy. I think we all fall for it anyway.
