med school graduation gift?
A friend of ours is graduating from medical school in May. Unfortunately, we cannot go to the graduation and the party because we have my niece's First Communion the same day. We do want to send a gift, though (not money, but maybe a GC) -- any suggestions?
Graduate is a guy in his late twenties, married, no kids yet, and fairly religious. He doesn't drink and lives OOS. He isn't super into sports. Any ideas?
GCs are definitely an option.

When my friend graduated from med school a few years ago, we got him a leather padfolio, and a nice engraved pen w/ his name, md engraved.

I agree--- that's what we got my brother,
nmont blanc pen is always a nice gift..
or even $$$
Remember, the next step is residency and they are not making any money by a long shot yet

My cousin is graduating in May and I'm going to do a bunch of gcs for him with funny reasons. Starbucks to help him stay awake on long shifts, sporting goods store for comfy sneakers, you get the idea.

What about a nice mont blanc pen - if you don't want to spend that much a gift card for a night relaxing night out is always nice. What about a tiffany paper weight for his desk when he eventually gets his own office.

GC to a local medical bookstore
I bought SIL a few penlights, a good one and some for adults, some for peds.
I'll see if I can find the site I used.

it's difficult...
when I got my doctorate, I got several pens and stuff... frankly, sleep-deprived residents / post-docs are not responsible enough to keep tabs on $$$ pens. they could end up in a bedroom drawer
I think a gift certificate to any store for spiffy yet practical clothing (maybe banana republic?) would be great. After all, residents have to dress professionally when they do rounds.
