May Have to Throw Out Tree

Ever since we cut down our own tree last weekend DH's eyes have been bothering him. They were tearing and itchy all week. All of a sudden this weekend his left eye started getting puffy. This morning he woke up and it was swollen almost completely shut. Dr. said it "could" be viral congunctivitis (sp?) but it sounded like an allergic reaction. Gave him an antihistimine and steriod/antibiotic drops but said if it is an allergy we may have to get rid of the tree. We had a real tree the past two years and never had a problem although we bought Douglas Firs and never cut them down ourselves. This year we went out east and got a Blue Spruce. How sad will it be to take everything down and throw out my brand new EXPENSIVE treeChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

well, at least see if you can donate it to someone.... it will at least brighten the lives of less fortunate people... it will likely make you feel better about getting it out of the home too

You can donate your christmas tree? To who? Where would I find out about that?

Chat Icon I hope you DH feels better.... If you do need to get rid of your tree you can try calling your local church, they might know a family that needs one...........another alternative is to throw the tree on the dunes off Ocean Parkway............Suffolk County runs a program to help save the dunes....we bring ours every year.......

We have ours outside on our deck because we can't have it inside.

Re: May Have to Throw Out Tree

I just heard a doctor talking about this on the radio. Apparently, the longer the tree has been down the more it affects your allergies. If you must have a real tree, he suggested a fresh cut. Apparently, this is a problem for a lot of people. Hope your husband feels better.
