Maui Excursions and Food - Need Help!
We are going to Maui for ten days in January for our honeymoon.
We want to do the following excursions: helicopter tour of volcano road to hana whale watching
Can anyone recommend a company we should book our excursions threw? I am very concerned about safety..
Any other "must dos" in Maui and also places we MUST eat at?
Thank you

Talk to a TA about that. They can do all the excursions so it's all set up.
We did a bike ride down a volacano. It was awesome, but if you do the sunrise one they pick you up at 3AM from your hotel. You drive all the way up the volcano and watch the sunrise (you're actually above the clouds) then you bike all the way down. I think it's around 25 miles then get lunch. That day at the hotel DH and I pretty much slept by the pool

Mamas Fish House is an absolute absolute absolute MUST! Book ahead of time...its gets crowded.
Gazebo restaurant for breakfast- get the Macadamia Nut pancakes
If you like Sushi, Sensei is another MUST. Again, book ahead of time.
Makena Beach- down the southern coast past Wailea- undeveloped and not too crowded, probably one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen.
We did an organized tour for the Road to Hana, and have to say that we regret not doing it on our own. It was a loooong exhausting day, I think we were on and off that little bus for 13 hours. If you do it on your own, you can stop and go as you please. I'd recommend doing this instead of the tour. If you are going to do the tour, this is the one we did, and I'd recommend them:
road to hana
we were just there a few months ago, so FM me if you have any questions

Get this book: Maui Revealed
It gives so much wonderful information, and we found some great places along the Road to Hana that you might not get to see otherwise.

DEFINITELY go to Mama's. They have a few beachfront cottages there, so we stayed in them for a couple of days while on Maui (also stayed at the Four Seasons which was great...) But we ate at Mama's all 3 days we were there...it was THAT good!!!
Polli's isn't far from Mama's and was a good spot for lunch - Mexican food.
We did about 2 miles of the road to Hana and turned around...we just couldn't take it. But, lots of people love it!

DH and I have done the drive to Hana both on a tour and on our own - much preferred doing it ourselves. It's easier to see out the windows of a car than on the little tour bus, we could stop whenever or wherever we wanted and stay for a while, and our guide book told us more than the tour driver did.

We booked our excursions through the hotel concierge. We did a helicopter tour over Maui & Molokai through Mauiscape Helicopters (and we bought the video too). We also did the bike ride down Mt. Haleakala, but not the sunrise one. You have to eat at Roy's and order the chocolate lava cake - Yummmmm. Some other restaurants: Hula Grill and Leilani's.
Have a great time!!
