mattress shopping.....

We just bought a new mattress... one of the top of the line beautyrests... we got a super-deal on a floor model... we paid $800 for a $4k mattress..... nice, huh?! Chat Icon

I'm super-excited to get it, but I actually have mattress shopper anxiety Chat Icon I'm worried that our Chat Icon mattress will sag or be uncomfy if not now, then within the next year or 2.... I'm worried about all the new 'no-flip' mattresses... to me it means all mattresses will now last half as long as the old ones Chat Icon

I hate mattress shopping... It's one of the few industries that uses so many smoke and mirror tactics that you actually have no idea what you're buying... you can't really read reviews becuase there are about 400 different beautyrests Chat Icon I hope the thing is durable!

anyone else recently go mattress shopping? Anyone buy a super-poofy huge mattress? Are you happy with it?

Re: mattress shopping.....

we just recently bought a new mattress, a king sized super soft one, it cost us over $3000 Chat Icon (we justified spending that much because hopefully it will help with my back problems). it was one of the ones where they had you answer a few questions and lay on this bed and then they tell you which mattress is good for you. we didnt receive it yet but did yours come with a warranty? i think ours is covered for 20 years, if it sags, a spring pops out, we get a new one for free.

Re: mattress shopping.....

We spent $3000 on our Tempurpedic. We absolutely love it and will get one in another 30 years after this warranty wears out. Did yours come with a warranty?

You don't flip the mattress, but you do rotate it.

Re: mattress shopping.....

see, this is the problem.... I read online that most mattress warranties are bunk... the companies manage to weasle out of their responsibilities...

It's funny... the last mattress I bought I was also nervous about Chat Icon I think it's becuase you can't really research them...

It's a thing with me and mattresses... I bought my car with complete confidence and have been happy ever since! Chat Icon

oh, and I do intend to rotate this 18" badboy Chat Icon Have to work out and prepare for it Chat Icon

Our salesman told us this actually! that's why they tried to sell us the stores warrenty on the mattress so everything would be covered. we still didn't buy it. It was very expensive, i think it was about half the price of the mattress and you had to buy and use their mattress cover, which was a plasticy material, and that was so not happening for me. We went to sleepys

Re: mattress shopping.....

We had them replace the boxspring and had no problem. Not as expensive, but still not cheap to replace.

Re: mattress shopping.....

We actually went to Sleepy's and stood there while they took us through every trick in the book.

I spent a couple of hours online, researched comfortable mattresses...found that the Westin Bed had a great reputation (they sell it at Nordstrom, where you can try it out) and a million names (mattress companies do this so that they can sell the same mattress at different outlets and charge more/less accordingly) and found that the W Bed was the same..and also 30% off at their website with free shipping. We sprung for the featherbed since we were saving on the bed itself with frame. We are happy with the purchase and it paid to do some research prior to going.

Additionally, we were serviced by 1800mattress since they are the ones who deliver, etc. the bed and customer service between the W and 1800 mattress was EXCELLENT...

I am actually up right now BECAUSE of my mattress disaster of last year. I havent had a good night sleep since I bought this horrible mattress. I think the problem is that we bought plush, when we should have bought firm. Here's a tip, dont go mattress shopping when hungover...every mattress feels greatChat Icon Our mattress is fabulous to fall asleep in...you're out in 10 seconds but by the time you wake up, your spine is like a pretzel because there is no support. I hate the sleepys chick that pressured us into buying this "gotta have it deal".Chat Icon

Re: mattress shopping.....

You should have come to see my dh, who works at Sleepys. He has helped a few LIF'ers and got them great deals.

Fm me if you'd like more info.

BTW, we've had a non-flip mattress for years now. All you have to do it rotate it from head to toe. We've never had any problems.

well, after the horror of looking on the BBB website, I went with 1800mattress becuase they have a great rep with the BBB....

We're waiting for our giant mattress right now.... I hope we like it!!! I don't want to buy another mattress for at least another 5 years. I'm looking forward to not waking up with a kink in my back... I hope it stays that way for a while....
