Maternity leave question

When did you talk to your job about it?
Also did you speak with your HR Department or
your manager first?

I went directly to HR and discussed what I needed to do to be prepared. I asked to receive copies of the disability paperwork ahead of time and to know the deadlines that things had to be submitted by. I let them know that my plan was to be out for 6 weeks, but more was a possibility. I kept it open, but honest so we were on the same page.

i told HR about it around 12 weeks, just to find out what i was eligible for. i told them i planned on working till the end. i only get 12 weeks FMLA, so i can't really give them advanced notice, since FMLA starts the day the baby is born. i don't have to call them again until i give birth.
