Maternity Leave dilemma

Need your opinions on this one ladies...

My planned last day at work will be September 21st since I am due September 28th. Starting with the first week off, my six weeks disability kicks off, followed by 3 weeks vacation, which will leave me well financially covered until the end of November. My original plan involved taking FMLA and unpaid December, returning to work after New Year's. Now, my husband and I discussed this and he told me that if I wanted to, to take the whole December off and not worry about a thing. But the thing is that I am a little worried and I feel bad having him work and provide alone...we have a plan to sack away for the house and we've been doing so good...I know that a month off is not a big deal...I don't know, maybe I shouldn't feel guilty...the thing that keeps me going is that I am going to be able to stay home with my baby longer, bond with him more and enjoy the holidays. On the other side, I'm thinking about the pay I am going to miss and all the holiday pay...

Please knock some sense into me and tell me what you think...thanks!Chat Icon

Re: Maternity Leave dilemma

Same position as you ... not going back until after new years minimum - I technically am able to stay home until March though and am debating it ....

TAKE THE TIME OFF ... 1 months pay is a drop in the hat in the grand scheme of life!

I can't tell you what to do, but no matter what you decide you shouldn't feel guilty-whether it's working to contribute to your housing fund or staying home to take care of your child.

Re: Maternity Leave dilemma

I am having this debate with myself right now. I am trying to stay home as long as possible. My issue is not so much the no pay for the month or so...but the lack of health insurance for that time, having to pay the FULL premium, which is a LOT.

My thought though, is how often will I have a newborn, and when I look at 3/4 month old babies, I wonder if I will be able to leave mine already. Hard decisions. good luck!
