Maternity Clothes...How Long...

I went on a little shopping fun yesterday and found some great stuff at Destination Maternity. The associate at the store said the clothes should last me through the pregnancy. Is this true? For those that have bought clothes early on, how long have you been able to get use out of them?

Re: Maternity Clothes...How Long...

Chat Icon wasn't true for me....jk...but really...towards the end I didn't even fit in the maternity stuff. I stopped working at 36 weeks so it was a good thing I didn't need any of those clothes. I was happy in sweats and tees.

Re: Maternity Clothes...How Long...

Last pregnancy they worked for me from the time I needed them until the end. This time, I'm still wearing many of the clothes from last pregnancy...but I'm having a boy and carrying all belly in the front, and I think I'll have to invest larger tops soon to cover my torpedo stomach. Last time I was rounder all around and gained in my back/butt too, so the clothes fit differently. I'm 34 weeks.

Re: Maternity Clothes...How Long...

For me, it was best to buy a few items at a time. Luckily, my best friend gave me some stuff, but it was all small/medium stuff which fit until about 25 weeks, then my belly got huge and I had to get large/xl tops. The jeans I bought at 15 weeks have lasted me through my whole pregnancy, but the tops I have had to buy more a few times. I guess I wasn't expecting how large my belly would get. But I am 5'10" so the length is the real problem. Noting covers my belly anymore, so I get the large/xl mostly for the length.

With DD #1 I had to buy one larger pair of work pants towards the end. I may have bought a large top or two also- I am usually a medium.

Most of the stuff lasted my entire pregnancy with dd
However a few more fitted shirts didn't last but cotton/stretchy and empire waist fit
I did end up needing one new pair of work pants at the very end I was just too uncomfortable to stay in my size mediums for the last few weeks

I'm guessing it depends on the pregnancy and where you gain weight. With my DS I started wearing maternity clothes at about 10 weeks. By about 34ish weeks a couple of the clothes were too small and I needed to size up. Now with this pregnancy at 22 weeks, all my maternity clothes from last pregnancy are still too big.

At 33 weeks I am still wearing the clothes I bought at 13 weeks. I am hoping to make it to the end without buying anything else. A couple of my shirts are more fitted but not too tight.

Re: Maternity Clothes...How Long...

Most of my stuff I was able to wear to the end. There was a few shirts that got tight at the very end. Jeans with half panel never fit me past 25 weeks. I always buy full panel since they fit to the end.

I agree about the half panel. I bought a pair at like 22 weeks and then went to wear them at 24 weeks and they were so uncomfortable. At 27 weeks, all the full panel pants still fit comfortably.

You will be fine till then. You must be due around the same time as me. This is my third pregnancy and the first time I'm going to have to buy some summer clothes at the end. So I bought a good amount for now and them at 37 weeks I will probably have to get a few sun dresses and short sleeve shirts. Remember after baby for most you have to keep wearing your maternity clothes for a little bit. Your old clothes might not fit right and you still have a belly for a little bit. Some are lucky and lose weight right away but I never did. Dresses will be great to wear.

Re: Maternity Clothes...How Long...

all the stuff i bought for my first pregnancy lasted all the way through. And unless something drastically changes its looking like it will be the same this time too.

regardless its not a bad idea to buy stuff over time because what the store carries changes so its similar to shopping for clothes in general

So far they still fit. Jeans especially. Some shirts aren't as long as they used to be as my bump has gotten bigger but still long enough. I bought them around 23-24 weeks and I'm 33 weeks now.

Re: Maternity Clothes...How Long...

I have lived in about 5-6 maternity shirts and they have lasted me up until now (30 weeks) just fine. I have, however, had to get more pants. I began my pregnancy as one of those women who HATED having something covering my bump...so I went with the half panel and always wore it below my bump. Well..at around 27 weeks, that flys RIGHT out the window bc I'm carrying pretty low and baby gets HEAVY! I HAD to switch to a full panel pant and I am SO SO glad I did.

I bought most of my maternity clothes b/t 13-20 weeks. They all still fit now at 38 weeks. The pants have gotten a bit tighter and the shirts are a little shorter but are still wearable.
