Wow! I knew about this test for down's, but my friend just had her first appmt with her OB, and while she was there, the rep told her they can now test for down's and gender at 10 weeks!

So excited!

apparently they are able to test for presence of Y chromosome in fetal DNA through mom's blood. it's brand new. my friend said the rep was talking to the doctor about the gender aspect of it during her appointment today. she is 7 weeks now and going for the test in 3 weeks

Idk if the materni21 offers it but there is a blood test that can be done to see if there are y-chromosomes in the mothers blood, which would indicate a boy (sorry, I can't direct link from my phone)

I am Chat Icon but for those who "can't wait" if they want to pay OOP for it, its a good thing! Not invasive to mom or baby at all.

I had the test at 11 weeks -- and thankfully everything came back negative. The most they said I would have to pay OOP was $230. I had the test b/c of my age (35) and b/c of previous losses.

I also found out the sex (it's a girl!). Its kinda of weird to know at this point, even though I don't have a big belly (14 weeks now)

Re: materniti 21

I had this test also, and they can def. tell the sex. I had the test done due to my age and wanting to avoid CVS. They were able to tell me I had at least one boy in my belly, so I knew early on. Obviously because I am having twins they cannot differentiate the two babies. So they can just tell whether or not you have the Y chromosome floating around. I find it fascinating!

That is so cool to be able to find out that early but I don't know if it's worth spending the extra money when you can get the same results 2 months later.

ETA: But since I am a crazy control freak that NEEDS to know (Chat Icon ) I would probably spend the money.
