Massage Envy - anyone ever cancel membership ?
About 3 months ago I went in for a massage at Massage Envy and heck, I thought they had a great deal on membership so I signed up (yes in retrospect I shouldn't have but whats done is done ).
So far I have had 3 massages (all different people) and they have been anything BUT relaxing. The 1st guy was much too harsh and used too much pressure, I couldnt wait for the massage to be over because I was literally in pain the entire time. The 2nd was this woman who dug in too much between my shoulder blades and left me sore for days. The 3rd was another lady who spent 30 min on just my legs and feet and 10 min on my back, and I felt like a stuffed sausage afterward.
I think its time for me to cancel my membership with them. So far, the best massage I have ever had in MY LIFE was from a Spa in Las Vegas a few months back. The pressure was perfect and her hands were like silk on my skin. None of the people I have had work on me at Massage Envy have come even close - I dont know whether they train their massage people to work in a certain format all the time, or because everyone there has scaly hands or what...But I just want to cancel..
Has anyone had trouble getting out of that 12 month membership program?

Re: Massage Envy - anyone ever cancel membership ?
I believe the only way to cancel before the 12 months is with a dr's note. Maybe try a different location? I'm also a member and have been to both the Plainview and Farmingdale locations and have had great massages at both. I just can't remember anyone's name who I was happy with, sorry! Although I did have one woman in Plainview who was terrible, she had very dry hands like you mentioned and she talked the whole time. I hope you can figure something out so you're happy and get to enjoy your massages!

If I'm not mistaken your have to have either a Dr's note or be moving somewhere where there isnt a Massage Envy for you to go to...Something like that!

I tried to cancel mine too b/c I wasn't thrilled with it, but they directed me right to the contract. You can only cancel if you are within 30 days of signing the contract. Since I was out of that period, no dice. I finally ended my year this month! Happy to save the 60 or so bucks a month now!

Re: Massage Envy - anyone ever cancel membership ?
Ugh, ya I was hoping someone had better sucess at getitng out of the contract for other reasons that weren't in the fine print..
Do you think they would ask for proof that I am moving out of state in order to cancel?
If I had a GREAT masseuse that I really liked, I would keep the membership no problem. I spend too many hours driving/at my desk to need a massage every month (hence why I joined, I cant be going to a chiropractor every 2 months now ) so I was hoping I could get some relaxation..But if the next 9 massages are indicative of the lousy last 3 massages I've had, then I really want out!!!

I would call them and be honest and see what they can do for you. Perhaps there is another therapist that you can be directed to that is better than those three.
GL!

Re: Massage Envy - anyone ever cancel membership ?
Got this off of their website:
Cancellation during initial term You may cancel your Membership Agreement during the initial term of your membership upon the following conditions: You change your permanent residence to a location more than 25 miles from any Massage Envy clinic. Cancellations must be accompanied by written proof (i.e. driver's license, utility bill, car insurance, etc.) Permanent disability as established with the submission of a letter from your doctor. Once you have been approved for cancellation you will be relieved from making payment for membership dues. Cancellation during auto-renewal term You may cancel your membership upon 30-day advance written notice to the Massage Envy clinic at which your membership originated.

Re: Massage Envy - anyone ever cancel membership ?
You can cancel if you get a Dr.'s note that you cannot get massages but you will lose any prepaid unused massages you have in there. Usually you have 30 days to use them when you cancel but since you would be claiming you can't have any massage anymore, it would hard to use any remaining. So make sure they don't charge your massage next month on your billing date. Ask them how that would work.
Stay on top of it! Ask for confirmation of the cancellation. AKA.... get a copy of your signed copy to cancel your contract.
