Re: Maskers orchard- does it get stupid crowded?
As someone who hails from the Hudson Valley, my advice is to stay away.
I went there one year and it was a freakin' zoo.
I have been telling everyone to check out Soon's Orchard.
It's not too far off Rt. 17 and they have an actual hayride to pick the pumpkins off the vine in the field.
I don't recall Masker's having that. Honestly, it reminded me of White Post Farms and DH and I were annoyed that we wasted the day driving up from LI for that.
If you go to Soon's, go in the AM and then just hit the outlets at Woodbury. They're only about 20-30 minutes away. Or even go to one of the wineries in the area.

I've never seen a more crowded orchard than Masker's. We joked that the entire city of NY went apple picking on the same day when we went. We also didn't care for cars driving by where you are picking apples- the orchard is so huge that its kind of a necessity to drive in but it doesn't make for a great atmosphere.

We were just at Maskers yesterday from about 12:30-4:00. It wasn’t crazy crowded at all. However it seems everyone wants to park right when you get in which makes it nuts in that area. We drove up into the orchard and parked, had a picnic lunch and picked apples and it was quiet. We went to the main area to buy some cider and the best apple cider donuts ever, kids played in the maze and all. Overall it was a great day. The renaissance fair is over next week so that should help the local traffic in getting there!

We went one yr and it took us forever to get there. There was so much traffic getting into the orchard that two merging lanes of traffic were backed up a few miles and it took us 2hrs to drive the last two miles. And then on top of it, it was so expensive for a orchard. Nope not worth it at all. We went to a orchard the yr before in MA(in the berkshires area) that was fabulous. It was a 3 hr drive and my mom still talks about how delicious the apples were.
