Manorville
Anyone familiar with the area? Is it in the middle of no-where? Good places for shopping, etc?

Re: Manorville
I am a big fan of Manorville. It doesn't have too much good shopping though as far as supermarkets and whatever but the area has some great neighborhoods, beautiful homes, great school district, PROPERTY with the houses, and I like the location. Sort of near Riverhead shopping and yet quiet.

Re: Manorville
There's a shopping plaza with a supermarket (King Kullen, I think) and some other stores. There's more shopping in Center Moriches and yes, Riverhead. I love Manorville and wish we could afford to live there! I'm very confused about the school districts, perhaps someone could help me out. I thought homes were in either Easport or South Manor but I think they are really one district?

Re: Manorville
It's closer to my job than any other place we looked at so far. DH was concerned it was going to take forever just to get a grocery store, etc. I heard the neighborhood was really nice, but I know DH would be miserable living somewhere if it's really far away from "civilization". Is food shopping a reasonable distance, or would ice cream turn to milk by the time we got home?

The plaza I'm referring to is on the corner of Chapman Blvd and 111 (I think!) Just off of the LIE.

Eastport, Manorville and sections of Speonk are in the Eastport South Manor SD. There are 2 elem. schools (depending on whether you're in Eastport or Manorville) and 1 beautiful new HS.
To the OP, not alot of shopping in Manorville itself other than supermarket shopping center, 7-11..., but a 5-10 ride to lots of shopping in Riverhead. I grew up here, bought a home 3 years ago...any ?'s, FM me!

One elem. school is k-6 and the other is k-2, then there is another school(middle school) which is 3-6.

I substitute teach at all of these schools and I love the district! Especially Dayton Avenue and South Street Schools (for Manorville People not Eastport).

Re: Manorville
There is a small shopping center with good Chinese, King Kullen, card store, Carvel, McDonalds and 7-11 (I think). Across teh street is Michaelangelo's Italian restaurant, a North Fork and Starbucks. There is the LI Game farm down the road, and a few gas stations, as well as some farm stands. Beyond that, there isn'tmuch, but Riverhead isn't too far. I have heard great things about the schools, there isn't much traffic and it is a low crime area.

Re: Manorville
This is where I wanted to live for the rest of my life. I lived there for two years and loved it. But DH works in the city and the commute would kill him. It really isn't in the middle of nowhere. There's the shopping center everyone has talked about, Riverhead not to far up the road and Center Moriches (where there's tons to do) is right around the corner. The neighborhood is gorgeous, I heard the schools are great, and its really quite. Also if you are a Hampton's fan, its only a half hour away. Also though Manorville if far out, it is insanely close to both the LIE and Sunrise Hwy.
The only thing that seems a bit far is the post office, but really its not more then 15minutes away.

where abouts did you live? Just curious because you say the PO is 15 minutes away I'm right around the corner from the LIE & sunrise. The PO too! I guess when you're used to the fast paced city life or even Nassau, Manorville does seem far out/ remote.

Last year I was there a lot! But since it's far for me I stick to districts on the north shore more now. I was also mostly at Eastport. Is that where she goes? I was in Kindergarten a lot last year, I probably had her

I live in Pine Hills. It might be more like 5 or 10 minutes, it just seem far from other things.
