Making plans during 3rd trimester

I am due on 8/31 and went early when my son was born.. How did you handle making plans with people and RSVPing to parties etc. during your last month? Did you tell people your plans would be tentative pending baby's arrival and how you are feeling?

A friend wants to come visit from OOS when I am almost 37 weeks and I would love to see her, but I just don't know if I'll be up to entertaining her for the day since she'll be coming with her 2 kids, plus I have my son. WWYD?

I was just looking to see what you told people if anything?

Thanks!

Re: Making plans during 3rd trimester

With DS 1 we had two engagement parties a week before and a week after my due date. We said yes to both but told them there was a good possibility we might not make it and may have to cancel last minute. We went to one and didn't go to the either (DS was born). I would make tentative plans as long as the person is ok with a last minute cancellation!

This.

I'm due 9/7 and we were invited to a 1st bday party on 8/31. I said that I couldn't rsvp either way. If I were still preggo it would depend on how i felt. If there baby arrived a little early the answer would probably be no.

Re: Making plans during 3rd trimester

I don't think I'd be able to have a friend visit that close to my due date, especially considering this is your second and you went early with your first. I would explain that to her and just say that you want to play it safe. It's really more for her, because if she plans to come and then you can't see her last minute b/c you are in labor or just gave birth, it's not fair to her either. So, I would explain it that way.

For us, we play it by ear and try to handle each situation depending on the case. My cousin's FW is having her bridal shower August 3rd and it would require us driving three hours, each way, to get there and home. My doc was like NO Chat Icon he is pretty blunt with certain things. He said, I don't want you SEATED in a car for that long in your third trimester. So, that was that. I explained it to her and I'll send a nice gift.

But then my friend yesterday asked us to go to her annual summer party - she had it last year and I couldn't go because I had just had surgery. This year, I really want to attend. I will be almost 36 weeks at that point so we will see, she understands that, and I'll do what I can to come -- at the very least, I'll send DH to have fun, why should he not enjoy himself because I'm lame and PG? lol I would send nice apps or a dessert with him - maybe some beer or wine? But yeah, depends on the case.

Do what is best for you and baby's health - people will understand that. Chat Icon

I had a commitment the weekend I was 37 weeks but I tookit easy the rest of the day. I said after that I don't commit to anything. everything is dependent on how I feel right before I do it.

I was a bridesmaid at 37 weeks, 2 hours away. After that I didn't stray far from home, although we did buy broadway tix to a show 16 days before my EDD and I was able to make it! (we lived in the city at the time so it wasn't a big trip). After that, no firm plans. I went one day late.

Re: Making plans during 3rd trimester

i made plans my entire pregnancy and towards the end just warned i may not make it.
my due date was 2/8 - i went to a briday shower 1.5 hours away on 2/2 and even hosted a super bowl gathering at my place on 2/3

do what you feel comfortable with. is your friend visiting other family/friends during her time here? does she plan on staying with you? if shes not staying with you and has other things to do, i would tell her to come but warn her you may only get to spend an afternoon or two with her - it all depends on how you are feeling. let her then decide if she wants to come or not

Thank you for the suggestions and sharing your story! It is very appreciated!

I think I am going to let her know that we could make plans and see if she is OK keeping them tentative since I'll almost be 37 weeks.

Thanks again!!
