Re: Making Peppermint Bark

Not sure if this is peppermint bark but Ive bought chocolate, melted it, spread the melted chocolate (ive made it with white and dark chocolate) on a cookie sheet covered in wax paper and then crushed up candy canes and sprinkled them all over the chocolate. Put in fridge and the chocolate hardens .. so good!

Re: Making Peppermint Bark

I've never made it before either, but this is the recipe I'm using:

Molly’s Peppermint Bark

Ingredients:
•1 pound dark or semi-sweet chocolate*
•1 pound white chocolate*
•1 to 2 teaspoons peppermint extract (I used 1 tsp.)
•1 teaspoon canola oil
•4 to 5 regular-size candy canes, crushed

*Note: I highly recommend using a block of good quality chocolate for this recipe (I used Baker’s brand baking blocks). Chocolate chips don’t work as well because they have stabilizers in them, and the layers in the bark tend to separate.

Directions:
1.Line a baking sheet (with raised edges) with foil, and spray with non-stick spray.
2.Melt dark chocolate in microwave (30 second intervals on high, stirring in between).
3.Add 1/2 tsp. of canola oil and spread evenly in pan. Refrigerate until solid.
4.Melt white chocolate using the same method, and add 1/2 tsp. of oil, as well as the peppermint extract.
5.Spread white chocolate mixture over dark chocolate layer (it is best to let the white chocolate cool a bit, so it doesn’t melt the dark chocolate and swirl layers together).
6.Sprinkle crushed candy cane pieces on top, and refrigerate (or freeze) until solid.
7.Remove from cookie sheet, peel off foil layer, and chop into pieces. Enjoy!

Re: Making Peppermint Bark

The post right above me is pretty much the recipe I used last year. Super easy to do and really great. Just takes a while because you have to let the first layer cool completely before doing the second layer.

Re: Making Peppermint Bark

I'm making it for the 1st time & foundmthis recipe (I think on allrecipes.com), so I read all the great reviews & tips

Holiday Peppermint Bark

1 (12 ounce) package NESTLE® TOLL HOUSE® Premier White Morsels (some suggest 1 T veg oil to melt smoother)
24 hard peppermint candies (crush before melt chocolate, so are ready to go)
12oz semi-sweet chocolate
1/2 tsp peppermint extract

PLACE peppermint candies in heavy-duty plastic bag. Crush candies using rolling pin or other heavy object. While holding strainer over melted morsels, pour crushed candy into strainer. Shake to release all small candy pieces; reserve larger candy pieces.

LINE baking sheet with waxed paper.

Use a Double boiler and melt semi-sweet chocolate until smooth.  Spread on prepared baking sheet.  Allow to set, but not too firm, or white will not stick.**

Use double boiler or MICROWAVE white morsels in medium, microwave-safe bowl on MEDIUM-HIGH (70 percent) power for 1 minute; stir. Microwave at additional 10- to 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth.

Stir morsel-peppermint mixture.  Add 1/2 tsp peppermint extract to melted white morsels.

SPREAD mixture to desired thickness on prepared baking sheet.

Sprinkle with reserved candy pieces; press in lightly. Let stand for about 1 hour or until firm.

Break into pieces. Store in airtight container at room temperature.

Tips:
**Melt chocolate in separate bowls and first pour the white chocolate down, then the dark on top. Then just take knife and cross-cross through the mixture making it "marbled" to your liking (but not too much or it will look muddy). Easier than making the two layers.

Re: Making Peppermint Bark

i make it with dark chocolate and white chocolate.

i don't let them set too much, because i like to swirl them a little with a skewer

then the crushed candy cane pieces on top

let the whole thing cool and break like peanut brittle
