Making an appointment with a RE...

At what point did you all decide to do this...we have been trying for 5 months. I am ready but DH is not.

I met with my Gyno over the winter and he gave me a full bloodwork and an internal...all normal.

I really want DH to have a SA but he is resistant Chat Icon He says I am putting too much pressure on us.

I have been tracking my cycle, getting +OPK and nothing....
at what point do I take the next step?

Thanks Ladies Chat Icon

Re: Making an appointment with a RE...

We knew right away we were going to have problems conceiving, but it took about a year for us to make the move to the RE.

Re: Making an appointment with a RE...

because of my age..right away.

Personally, if you are under 30 I would try a little longer.

Getting him tested is not a bad idea though and you don't have to go to a RE. Your doctor can order it or have him to to a urologist.

We are both 29. I got the ball rolling after 9 months of serious trying. I met with my GYN first, her testing took 8 weeks and then we were referred to a urologist for my DH. From there we were referred to RE.

Re: Making an appointment with a RE...

I was 30 but we had been ttc for 11 months. I told my ob/gyn and she ran some blood tests on me and sent DH for a SA. His SA came back horrible and we were sent right to the RE.

You don't say how old you are but the norm is, under 35 you should try for 1 year. Over 35, 6 months.

I think you really need to sit down and talk to your DH about all this. His part is so easy and if it can be ruled out, they can focus on other things. He really needs to be on board for all of this. It's hard for us but it's even harder for some of them. It's a man thing and they'd rather ignore it and just assume it's a female issue than have to face the possibility that it's male.

Re: Making an appointment with a RE...

Well, I always find it difficult to answer this question!
I came off the pill in Sept. '06. We weren't "trying" but we weren't "not trying" either. We were taking "the whatever happens, happens" approach. We had planned to get serious with TTC that spring/summer. My cycles got longer and longer and then in Feb '07 they stopped coming. I found out in June of '07 I had PCOS and did not ovulate on my own. I started seeing an RE in Sept. '07. So I guess you can say we were "trying" for a year.

ETA: I was 28 when we started, 29 when I first saw the RE.

Re: Making an appointment with a RE...

After a total of 9 months

6 months trying on our own

3 months with assistance from my OB

I was 36 when I started to both TTC and use an RE.
