MagicBand - yeah or neah?
We're going in December and NOT staying at a Disney resort. Would you get the bands? I know it's an added expense but I kind of want them.
Any opinions?

I probably wouldn't. I prefer tapping my card to the readers rather than trying to contortion my wrist so the Mickey heads align properly. I am really not a fan of the actual band, and really dislike wearing them. That's just me though.

We really liked ours. You can even keep them on in the pool.
I also didn't realize it was an added expense.

I thought they were really useful for a lot of the extra uses staying on disney property. Not sure if it's so useful if you just plan on using them in the parks though.

I love the magic bands but we get them free cause we stay on property. If i had to pay for them id probably learn to live without it lol.

The MagicBands are good to link to your park admission ticket, FastPass Plus reservations and any dining reservation. Which means we'll be using them 5 times at most each day. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

we stayed at a resort so we didn't have to pay for ours. I loved them! i'd be sad without it lol... it was so convenient.

You definitely get more use out of them when you stay onsite. Onsite they are your room key,ticket, fastpass, memory maker, etc. You also use them for the meal plan, to charge things back to your room and if you are staying in a hotel with a gated pool you need it to gain access.
Offsite I don't think they're necessary.

My DH finds them to be very uncomfortable, and hates wearing them. They don't bother me at all. Because they are reusable for subsequent trips, I might consider buying one after I arrived - especially one of the designer options with the characters on them.

I would not pay extra for them.
It is convenient to be able to leave your wallet at home and jump on a boat/monorail to the parks. I would not buy them just to wear them. I don't think you can charge to your room if you are not staying on site so then it just becomes a band.

You can just scan your admission ticket for fastptass ressies. Not sure about dining, don't recall having to tap our bands for that.

they do make it easy to "tap" into the parks, as your admission ticket and to tap in for your FP reservations--- so you don't have to keep pulling your ticket cards out and putting them back. I don't think you need to tap in for dining- we were just there, and i only remember just giving my name to check in for the meals we reserved. IF you're staying on site its awesome because you can use them to pay for anything in the parks, and charge back to your room.... so you don't have to even carry a credit card around the parks with you. BUT-- not sure you can charge like that if you're staying off site.... how much are they to buy? i kind of think i would do it, just to have as my park ticket... because knowing me, i would loose the ticket card between getting it in and out to check in for my FPs and into the parks and stuff HAHA

If you are on the dining plan, you tap the band for credits. If you link a credit card you tap the band to pay for anything and everything.

Yes you can, but like I said, I wouldn't spend the money on a plain band if I was staying off property. I would only get one of the character bands.

No you cannot link a credit card to the magic band if you are staying offsite. It is a "perk" only available for onsite guests.
ETA: if you are staying offsite about the only thing the magic band does is act as your ticket/fast pass/photo pass.

I was wondering to get these also - staying at the Swan. Is there anything extra when staying there - these don't work as room keys right?
Was thinking about getting the photo pass - if you don't have a magic band how do you link your photos? your ticket?

They don't work as room keys at the swan or dolphin. They would come in handy if you're doing extra magic hours. Instead of having to show your ticket each time you go on a ride during EMH you'd just tap your magic band.
If you don't have one, the first photographer you use will give you a photo pass card. You then hand that card to each subsequent photographer.

I stayed off site. I spent the extra for magic bands. I really don't see it being a big expense or a big deal. ($36 for a family of 3) They included our park admission, fast passes and memory maker.
We all loved not having to pull out a card every time we used a fast pass (which one day we had about 8!).
For memory maker...we just got our pictures taken...scanned our band and went on our way.
My 5 year old loved his. We also got simple decals for our magic bands which got so much recognition from not only the cast members, but also the characters. That alone made them PRICELESS!
