Lymphoma

I just found out that my ferret Lulu has lymphoma. She has a lot of tumors, some very large. We are debating starting her on chemo vs just prednisone. Does anyone have any experience with pets and chemo? I just want to be sure whatever I do, it's the right decision for her.....

i don't know about ferrets, but in dogs, cancer like lymphoma is not curable. they can go into remission with chemo but it's usually not for more than a year or two.

our dog had a kind of lymphoma and we did chemo. he had an extra 7 months with us (two rounds of chemo, the 2nd stronger than the 1st but stopped sooner because it wasn't helping).

the prednisone (as far as i understand it) will just make her comfortable and able to eat and drink until the tumors grow too big. i don't know anything about their actual effect on the tumors, sorry.

it completely depends on the animal's quality of life. Chat Icon good luck, i hope you get good news soon.

Re: Lymphoma

my dog had lymphoma. we did chemo for a little over two years. basciallly they treat until the animal becomes resistent to each chemo drug. we tried about 8 different drugs.

First round was tough weekly for 3 months. after that she did alot better.

maybe see if they can give a round of chemo to see how she responds.

Re: Lymphoma

Thanks for the prayers everyone! She started chemo 2 weeks ago. I'm really hoping it helps shrink some of the tumors. Poor thing has to get treatments once a week though, but so far she is acting normal!
