No, but I'm not giving anything very messy yet. I put in a napkin. If you mean beforehand, they probably should be encouraged to wash hands before lunch, but I have no idea if that actually happens. I don't like to uses sanitizers, but if I did, I don't think I'd want DD getting her hands wet with it immediately before touching her food.

No, just a napkin. But, hand sanitizer and wipes were both on the school supply list, so I assume they use them already.

No way. We don't use sanitizer unless absolutely needed. I encourage regular hand washing.

Your kids are likely not washing their hands before they eat lunch at school. There is no time to send 20 plus kids to the bathroom to wash. I would ask your teacher, but they absolutely do not do this in our schools.
I send my daughter with an alcohol wipe every single day. Not those benzo things, but Purell alcohol wipes in individual packets. If your kids are touching germs all day, and not washing their hands before touching their food, they WILL end up sick.

What I think is happening for DD's kindergarten class, could be wrong, is they do their class bathroom break before lunch. That's what I recall doing in elementary school. But, idk why they couldn't make time for hand washing. I'm pretty sure our school has 2 or 3 sinks in the boys and girls rooms in the cafeteria. Handwashing without using the toilet should take just a few minutes for a class of 20 kids. And, they like to stagger the classes arriving to the hot lunch line anyway. So, IMO, they should be able to figure out a way to fit it in.

I throw in a Wet Ones antibacterial individual wipe in her lunchbox and in her snack bag for the classroom snack.

NO, we were all asked to donate two bottles of Sanitizer and 3 things of flushable wipes. I would hope they are using them for cleanup

THis. I think when they were younger they had the kids wash their hands. Not sure how they do it in elementary schools. I don't send in wipes. Just a napkin... if I remember. LOL! I do think they use some purell when they get back in the classroom. Who knows?! When they get home from school they go straight to the bathroom to wash hands. There's only so much you can do. They're kids and gonna get dirty and gross. As long as they're healthy that's all that matters. I know Fridays they wipe down and clean their desks.

Re: Lunchbox spinoff
I know last year during the height of cold and flu season, there was a lot of sickness going around the school and her teacher sent home a note asking for a small hand sanitzer to be sent in. The note said with so many kids in the class, they don't have time to wash their hands in the sink before lunch (25 kids) so they wanted something quick. I got her one of the small ones on a key chain like thing and attached it to her lunchbox

I am a firm believer in this too. I take immunity supplements daily and in the winter my dd does too. I have seen a HUGE difference in how sick we get since I started. Probioitcs are great for immunity too. You can take all the precautions and hand washing in the world, but if you have a weak immune system you are going to get sick more often.

Eh, I dunno. I'm surprised at how many people don't believe in the hand washing/illness correlation...many in my real life, and honestly, their kids are always sick! and mine aren't! And they make fun of me for the diligent hand washing

Re: Lunchbox spinoff
I put Purell in my sons lunchbag. He has recess before lunch and they don't wash after coming in from playground. I'm not sure he uses it but it's worth a shot.

Re: Lunchbox spinoff
i don't. When we were at open house last week at my son's school his Kindergarten teacher told us she has every kid wash their hands before lunch. I was pretty impressed!

Of course there's a correlation...but in a school environment, washing their hands before lunch almost seems minuscule when they spend the whole day sharing books, pencils, playground equipment, gym equipment...then stuck a finger in their mouth, eye, nose. Hug. Hold hands. Sneeze on each other. Cough on each other. The germs are getting there
