Low milk supply

My supply low. I can't give my son as much as he wants. For example at night I breastfeed him on both side once he gets fussy I have my husband gives him 4-5oz of breast milk while I pump only 1 ounce. Then once he is sleeping ( 1-2 hours later) I pump again and get maybe 2 ounces. I'm so upset. I just want to nurse him and not have to pump . What can I do to get my supply up in the evening ? I have just started this routine otherwise it takes hours to get him to sleep and he cries . He is 4 months and I have only given him breastmilk.
I have bought mothers milk tea
Please help!

Is he distracted while nursing? We started dealing with a LOT of distractability from DD around that age, especially in the evening when DH was around. I would make sure you are nursing him in a dark, quiet room. I make sure to nurse in the room I normally do during the day otherwise the room itself is a distraction. Be patient and persistent and make sure he does well on each side. I will go back to the first side when she's done if I don't think she ate well. I would try nursing again before I would offer the bottle if I were you since there's obviously more milk there. Maybe try reducing the amount in the bottle if you do give it to try to wean him off of that habit. I would also try maybe moving his bedtime earlier. He could be fussy because he's overtired and you may have an easier time getting him down sooner. If he's made it this far on bm alone you definitely have enough milk! I went through questioning my supply around the same time though and I just pushed through and we are still going strong at 8 months. Try not to get too worked up and hopefully soon you'll get your confidence back!

Low milk supply

I was dealing with low supply. mothers milk tea helps and so does oatmeal. stress will affect your supply too so try to relax, drink water/tea while you pump. it will come back.

Re: Low milk supply

Thank you ladies. I have been stressed. I'm going to try to relax. I'm going to continue with the Tea and focus on keeping him latched and eating longer. He is very curious and always wanted to look around.
Thank you again for the support

Don't let the pump be an indicator of how much you are producing. Your baby is much more effective at getting milk than a pump.

to increase your supply, drink plenty of water, eat oatmeal in the morning and try fenugreek. I also recommend not pumping at all. It's too much work and can lead to more frustration. Just nurse on demand and your body should catch up.

last, are you on birth control? That can affect your production.

Low milk supply

ITA with what everyone else is saying. We went through a distraction period around that time too. Don't let what you pump be an indicator of what you actually produce. Most sources will tell you that even mom's that produce a lot of milk might only pump 1-2 oz per pump session. I started pumping an extra session after DD went to bed and it always stressed me out b/c I wasn't pumping a lot. Honestly, I would feed on demand as much as you can. You will get a much better let down with your child than the pump and that in turn should help increase your supply. Stick with it, you and your baby will get back on the same page soon Chat Icon
