low fever - ear vs rectal thermometer
DD (10 mos) felt warm last night. I took her temp with an ear thermometer. IT read 100.2. She went to sleep quickly, woke up twice during the night (rare and she went back to sleep after a few seconds of crying), and slept in longer than usual.
I went to get her this morning and she still felt warm. Took her temp with the ear thermometer again and it read 100.2 again (100.1 in the other ear). I used the rectal right after just to see and it reads 98. I took it twice.
DD is definitely warm, no doubt about it. But I thought the rectal was the more accurate temp. Which should I be following? And if its the ear temp, is there anything I should do for the slight fever? She seems to be in normal spirits, just warm and her eyes sort of look a little glossy. Thanks so much!

Even 100.2 isn't technically a fever. I bet it's teething. Maybe give her some Tylenol and keep an eye on her temp and today.

I'd do the same and if it doesn't go down, have her checked. Neither one of my kids ran high fevers but with every low-grade, had an ear infection. Not trying to scare, you, just go with your gut.

I agree. Usually if my DD has a fever and her ear temp is 100 or more...i double check with a rectal temp. usually if it's truly a fever that winds up being a degree or 2 higher. But if you feel she is warm and aren't getting an accurate reading...maybe try another thermometer? at 100... i'd go by how she's acting and just keep an eye on it
