Where/how do you dispose of your used syringes? My pharmacist said you can't just throw them out, and my doctor's office said they don't have a container big enough for all my used syringes.

Re: Lovenox users

get an empty coffee can (with plastic lid). no sharps risk, and everything is in one container. Chat Icon

Then do you just throw it in the regular garbage?

I'm pretty sure you can't do that... think 'syringe and trash washing up on the beach' Chat Icon have to collect it and then I guess return it to the Dr.'s office Chat Icon for medical waste disposal

The Dr.'s office should take them for you.

Re: Lovenox users

Lovenox is a blood thinner basically.

I asked my doctor's office if they would take them... I have about 100 used syringes in the ziplock I have, they said it was too many for the container they have. So the ziplock bag still sits in my bathroom as I continue to add more every day. Chat Icon

Re: Lovenox users

we teach our patients to dispose of thier insulin syringes in a old milk container or laundery detergent plastic container. NO throwing them out in regular garbage.

Re: Lovenox users

Luckily I'm around doctor's for work... I found an office willing to take them for me. What a pain?

So with the containers, do you then throw the milk carton or laundry detergent carton filled with needles and throw them out? The lovenox syringes have a safety device that you click at the end of your injection. A plastic cover shoots our and covers over the needle. Not sure how that works with other syringes... but good to know for when they switch me to heparin at the end... those are different needles... not prefilled like lovenox.
