So I did my first shot this morning. It didn't hurt nor has it bruised....yet.

My question is, I pinch the skin but as I'm injecting I loose the skin and then wind up hurting myself what am I doing wrong? I iced the spot and didn't feel any burning or pain so I was very happyChat Icon

Re: Lovenox

I can't say because I've always stretched the skin instead Chat Icon

I'm glad you had an easy time with it though!!

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I was always taught that subcutaneous shots you pinch and intramuscular shots you stretch then dart. HTH!

This is what I was told too - but when I went for my ER they said stretching causes less bruising.

I still bruised when I did Lovenox, but maybe not as much as if I pinched? I guess I won't know since I never tried! Chat Icon

I'll have to try stretching possibly. I was curious since I started running out of skin to hold onto and that made me hurt.

I did this today and I was pretty sure I was doing it wrong b/c it didn't hurt at all! Ice, stretch, lovenox. Thanks for the tip! I did feel slight burning like 5 minutes later, but not bad and there is no bruise.

Good luck Kristy! Im glad it wasn't as bad as you thought.
